so on friday morning i went up to my local hill, lakeridge. Beauty day, the forecast was perfect. Sunny, not too cold and a decent base of snow. So we (my buddy and I) were hitting the park a bit, just getting comfortable again as it was my first time back this season. So on about our fifth run down the hill im coming up to a flat-down-flat rail that i had 5050'd like 3 times already that day. As im coming up to it im thinking, back board the top, then switch back to 5050 before you get to the down part. Well sure enough i misjudged the time i had and i didnt get out of boardslide fast enough until WHAM!@$#!%@.... i black out. next thing i remember is having no idea where i am and im in the ski lodge with a ski patrol dude, cleaning my face of tons of blood. once i sat down and rested a bunch of stuff started to come back to me and i was super happy i was remembering things. currently im sitting here with a dirty, swollen abbrasion smacked right onto my face, and a regret that i didnt time that trick out before trying it....went to the hospital, the doc told me i had a concussion and they would have given me a catscan but because im 18 and still growing, they dont wanna expose me to those levels of radiation.....

just wondering if there were any other snowboarding injuries like this, or completely different ones?

broke my leg compound tib/fib out at breck like 5 years ago. i did it on a 65foot jump at the first annual cutters cup/ super park. me and my boy poached it, i front fived it first hit, second misjudged my speed and cased REAL HARD snapping meh leg and then bounced down the side of the landing, landing in between 3 inch saplings.
a titanium rod and three existing screws later and shizzle is stronger then before. never have had any problems......

I dislocated my shoulder skiing at Vail last year. Hit a hip back in blue sky basin and misjudged how soft the landing would be and flew out the back somehow catching my arm and ripping it back. Gathered my belongings and chilled for a min contemplating what to do. Couldn't really move my arm so I decided to ski to the lift and get patrol. Then spent the next hour or so with my shoulder remaining out of place uncomfortably strapped to a sled as they got me down to the base. Had to get strapped to a chair in the sled so they could get to the front side. That was scary as shizzle. Then they tossed me in the back of an excursion and took me to the medical center where they stripped me down, took some xrays, and then yanked it back into place without any type of pain medication or real explanation of what they were doing, which was probably for the better. All in all it was a crazy experience.

I always thought that a dislocation was a pop it back in to place and you're good to go type of injury but it pretty much effed my shoulder forever and it still bothers me almost a year later. Doctors all said once you do it once, its going to happen many more times throughout your life and it will probably require surgery someday. I can't wait.

My shoulder is "pop i back in real quick" but then i usually dont ride after that. its not really painfull while its out anymore because the tendon is so stretched out. the pain comes that night when you try to sleep and if you roll over on it.... Crying or Very sad im not sure how many times ive dislocated my shoulder but if i had to guess id say around 40+...having someone who knows how to put it back in helps a lot. you might want to learn so you can sort of coach one of your friends through it.

the only real permanent fix is surgery which my brother had about a year and a half ago. hasnt come out since

bmosing, I'm hoping to not get to the point where it dislocates frequently. I had it in some weird brace/sling for about a month after doing it which was suppose to help the tendons heal correctly and I've been working it out lately to build up the muscle around it. Hopefully it won't be an issue, but if it did come out again I think I could tell someone the way to put it back. It gives me the shivers thinking about it, though. It hurt so bad when they did it the first time. I was literally screaming in pain. But then as soon as it popped back into place I started laughing because it all went away so fast. Very strange feeling.

Ok so my first time out of the country snowboarding I decided to go to Whistler Blacomb with a friend to watch the FIS championships in January. So we are there first day. My friend cody and I rode the gangela up to the top and rode on up to the top. On the first run Cody (who had not had breakfast) made it back down to mid mountian. Which if you have never been toWhistler it takes atlease 20 minutes from the top to the mid mountian lodge if your hauling the mail. So we had never experianced the pressure drop of moving down a few thousand feet of elevation in a short peroid of time on an empty stomach. We passed mid mountian and hit a little wooded section and i could start to feel myself getting light headed so i cut out into the trail and radioed cody.
No answer.
Waited a minute.
and starteded calling him again, with no answer.
So i walked into the woods and started pushing the call button more so i could hear it (the patch wasnt to big Not really a way to get lost unless you dart out of the woods onto a different trail.
Finnally i found him. Face down in an open section. LOL . No trees, no hill, It looked like a powdery bunny slope and he had just Passed out.
He said he got hot, and light headed, looked like he just went from Nose down the hill to abrubt heelside followed by a quick toeside edge.
He passed out while riding and got himself a concussion.
Smash Smash Smash
so we flagged down a ski patrolman, because he was not functioning very well, and headed to the Blackomb hospital. Stayed there all day. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
So that was the First day of wistler.

then the remaing 4 days it chose to rain. Rain so much that out ski-in-ski-out was surrounded by a giant mud hill. We had to take a bus from Blackomb to whistler village, and then ride the gondela up to the midmountian where the rain was a mix, and above us on the top the storm was too intinse to open the lifts.

So basically i had a terrible time in Canada.

and the point is

ALWAYS EAT BREAKFAST BEFORE A LONG DAY OF SHREDDING
