You have to notch the top of the trannies so the metal will have somewhere to sit. If you have access to a welder, weld some metal tabs to the pipe, drill a hole in the tab and screw into stud. There you go. Or just go get some pool block, build a platform, get some sub floor glue and presto you have copping ready to grind. |

I second the welding technique. On the layer underneath your skate layer cut out rectangles directly underneath the Pipe and on the deck. Get some metal tabs and cut 2-3 holes in each one. Push them up to the Pipe and screw then into the Ramp. Then weld the tabs to the Pipe. Then put down your skate layer on top.
You can also drill holes into the pipe and stick a bolt in then put a nut inside the pipe and thread it into the bolt. But I don't think this will anchor as securely as the welding technique.
Mine are welded in and they are totally solid. |

I haven't heard of this welding technique before. Got any pictures? It's kind of hard to understand.
I've always thought the anchor bolt method was the best and most commonly used. You drill holes on one side of the pipe and put anchor bolts through the ramp and into the coping. They open up when they get inside the pipe and then you tighten them down. |

Sorry I can't find any pictures of my Ramp when I put it together. So let me try to explain:
My Ramp has 2 layers of 1/4" plywood along with 1 layer of SkateLite. On the second plywood layer right underneath the coping and on the deck right in front of the coping you cut out rectangles to fit these steel plates:
http://www.skateramps.us/cart/proddetail.php?prod=10plates
You then screw these plates into the ramp so that they are touching the coping. Then you weld the plates to the Coping. Then cover up the plates with your skating surface. This will hold the coping much more securely then the anchor bolt method. I had to pay a guy to come out and do it but he also got me my black iron pipe. |

just drill a hole on each end through the pipe, set it in the knotches, and put a nut&bolt on each end. works fine. _________________ "I said take me to the sea, cause that is where I want to be. I said take me to the sea and let my mother bury me." Buck-0-Nine |

Did you still have questions about the coping?
http://rampplans.org/forums/ is probably the best resource for ramp making tips... |
