Make sure you post the presentation online when you're done.

you should send an email to a few companies asking for this info. I'm sure if they have time they would help you out. and yeah.. it would be cool to have this information online for everyone to see.

I feel like liquid force had the first wakeskate design with the sponge but I am not really sure.

The first true wakeskate came from fresh water traction in 1998--it wasn't just a foam covered wakeboard, and it was more size appropriate. They began producing products for wakeskating around 1996 (their fresh water traction pads).

Hyperlite also had their first design in 1998 called "the waterskate" but I personally don't consider it to be a *true* wakeskate because it was just a fluid covered with foam and then it had some traction pads. To each his own.

Before that, you could mention that byerly and co. rode a flight 69 with traction on it, and he did a 3 shove on it. Although, I don't think he did the first shove because I read an interview with him and he said that he saw matt maloy do one first.

Also, before thomas was making his wooden cassettes (which were initially distributed by wakeskate.com), he rode some modified wakeboards with air brushed cassette graphics on them.

The founders are really difficult to list because I think there are some unsung heros, but some I would mention would include Scott byerly, Ryan byerly, Josh smith, Thomas horrell, Erich schmaltz, and jason messer. Like I said, there are others but those are the ones that come directly to mind.

wake-till-I-die, if you want me to scan one of the early fresh water traction ads (with the traction pads), PM me your e-mail address.

Also, you should have a picture of jason messer hitting that little rainbow on his FWT. Let me know if you want that too (but I don't know how you'd obtain permission...perhaps all you have to do is cite the source).

I also have pic of a guy from south america somewhere that was wakeskating in 1995 (it's in wbm).

I'm not the authority on the subject, but if you have any more questions, ask and maybe some others can add their two cents.

EDIT: you could also talk about the evolution of wakeskate design (if it fits into your project). You know, fwt, badass traction pads and sky hooks, the sponge, the wood cassettes (and include the 4-trac, and maybe a small taste of the bi-level), erich's mutiny and integrity, etc, etc...

check your e-mail bro-ham. I wanted to send you six different pics, but I think I exceeded the limit on your pm in box (basically, I dont' think the messer shot made it). Let me know what you have and when you have it all out of your in box and I'll re-send what didn't make it.

And please let me know if the scans are suitable for your project.

When is this due?

Also, if you talk about the progression of board design, I forgot to mention surf wax and bolt on traction tops (namely, blindside's jobby to cover a wakeboard) as other forms of traction. Blahhh.....

Josh Smith runs a wakeboard/wakeskate camp out here in Nor Cal on the Delta. Check out his site,

http://norcalwakeboardcamp.com/

You could get ahold of him from the contact info on his site.
