for all of you that have a winch, does anyone have a frame thats shaped like a box? I cant decide between that or the traditional DIY type frame or the frame with the spikes at the front...
which of these is the best, and why?
Just for frame designs.

we are building ours this weekend but I guess it depends on where you are going to use it. We are using ours on the beach and will haul it around so it has to have wheels on it.
The box design looks pretty damn heavy and the TAV spool is close to the ground..not good when the thing starts vibrating into the sand. Design one can be cool although you picked kind of a weak example of that design. By changing up the bracing angles you can make it look allot better.
WE keep going back in forth between 2 and 3.

are you talking about a Box shape as in a square frame or an enclosed frame ?

imo the 2nd design is the best for mobility, weight, functionality, and stability . . . . And not to mention my frame is the same concept

you could basically eliminate half of those pieces and still have a solid frame and half the weight

Montgomery, Yeah but with that frame design all you have to do is set it down and ride. No roping to a tree or pounding in stakes. Plus you can put wheels on it and it wont be that bad to move.

Cyclone268, that pic was taken when it was about 50% complete it has wheels, splash shields, a homemade header, and a different throttle lever on it. After about 5 different sprocket combos I finally got it perfect it deep water starts perfectly now I love it

well I wanted it to be pretty stable so we didn't skimp out on the steel we used 2x2 3/16" wall steel for the whole frame and a steel spool with a full tank it weighs about 140lbs +/- a pound or 2 . . . . . It's not so bad though with the wheels and the fact that it has a hitch mount. When I get home I'll post some updated pics for ya
