How many zeros in a billion?
This is too true to be funny.
The next time you hear a politician use the
word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of it's releases.
A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth.
E.
A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes
, at the rate our government is spending it. While this thought is still fresh in our brain... let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.
Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
is presently asking Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS
to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
what does it mean?
A.
Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman, and child)
you each get $516,528.
B.
Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.
C.
Or... if you are a family of four...
your family gets $2,066,012.
Washington , D.
C

I think I lot of that actually is either really outdated or plainly not true.
For one thing 1,000,000,000 seconds is 31.6 or so years. 2008-31= 1977.
1,000,000,000 minutes = 1901 years.
Sensational things are sensational for a reason.
Yes $1,000,000,000 is a lot of money and yes we're becoming desensitized, especially lately, it is quite unfortunate. But this is all sensationalist bulljive.
The number 1,000,000,000 is basically arbitrary without some other kind of qualification.

Uh yeah, if our economy collapses I'm sure the world economy will be totally unscathed. I hate it when people talk in generalities about America as if it is one unified ideology. This is not the first deficit that we have faced, Clinton's administration brought us out of debt faster than anyone could have possibly imagined. Contrary to popular world belief American seem to be a pretty adaptive collection of peoples and we most likely will be able to get through these rough times, though not necessarily unscathed.
This is not the first time we've been in debt, this is not the first time the markets have crashed. In 1987 the DJIA plunged 22% in one day, we were in a deficit at that time as well. _________________ The aforementioned postings and musings are the opinions of myself in their entirety and are not the opinions of wakeskating.com

| DRAGON88, Good ol' Black Friday, Oct. '87 . What is it with October and the stock market anyways, sure don't like each other. Still remember how that put fear in sooo many people and not just wealthy people. My dad was stressin. Was definately a profound thing for a nine year old kid. |
