All these winches seem to be is a 5- 6.5hp briggs and stratton motor (which only costs about $300) with the drive shaft attached to a wire spool so why would one cost $1300 Question check it out..........

Wakesk8er54, do a search, there are a lot of topics on here about that, it's not quite that simple, for starters that engine doesn't have the rpms to do the job; and they are little under 2600 now complete

Wakesk8er54, the picture on this website is a pic of a prototype that didn't work, because the inventor of the winch didn't want people to copy him, and you really can't get around the rpm issue with a gasoline motor that small ( theres a guy on here by the name of thewinch talk to him about it he's the owner of REWIND winches), I've been building a prototype of my own with an electric motor, b/c electric motors make all their torque at stall speed where as a gas motor doesn't, not to metion you'll need some involved clutch system for a gas motor powered winch that's capable of holding a couple hundred pounds at least, but if you aren't already aware of these facts I seriously doubt your really ready to undertake this project if I were you I would really do some serious research; it REALLY isn't as simple as it looks, take it from someone who's been at it a while, Im not tryin to slam you , but there are alot of people who have tried this, and so far everybody but REWIND has failed, and some of them have used better engines than that, just a little food for thought.

Kento, I agree with you on this. It does not look that simple. however I have to remind you that there is others than rewind... remember that post from Dave?:

kento911, What electric motor are you using? also what or how many batteries do you plan on lugging into that thing? I like the idea of using electric over gas.. .that would make it a lot quieter, so the po-po wont be called as much. You would have to be more cautious tho, power + water = bad. It would suck if the thing fell over in the lake or pond you were winchin, you'd get cooked. Laughing

it's an industrial motor turning 1750 approx rpms at 1hp, but it's ran through a gear box/car hauling winch (off of a car hauler trailer), and we got a modified generator to plug it into, my boy darrens got an R1 (the yamaha street bike) tail pipe on it, it sounds like some one giving the razzberry Razz , but were probably going to have to scrap that motor for a 220 volt one with about 6hp ( thank god you can get away with lees hp on an electric motor than yuo need with gas), its going to mount to the hitch reciever on my truck

sorry mr. F I stand corrected two people

Im kinda stuck right now, lack of funds, but Im soooooo damn close, Chris41, thanks for askingWakesk8er54, no prob that's the point, the cheaper people learn to build these the cheap they'll be. less trial and error equal less development cost equals lower prices and more competitors equals lower prices for consumers.

the water is irrellevant by the way the winch will never touch the water if it's on the back of my truck
