the previous paper i wrote about why i don't drink jagermister anymore, but this one is going to be hard.

of course i'm going to BS but i don't even know where to start

ESSAY #2 - ILLUSTRATION
Assigned in class on 9/18

Write an illustration paper on the following prompt:

Write about at least two people (no more than four) whom you consider to be role models. Describe qualities about these individuals that you admire. NOTE: AT LEAST ONE OF THESE INDIVIDUALS SHOULD BE SOMEONE YOU KNOW; THE OTHER SHOULD BE A FAMOUS/HISTORICAL FIGURE. You will need to use at least one reference/citation for your description of the latter.

Please consider all the appropriate essay elements, paying special attention to including sufficient detail. Remember to use a title.

Write a minimum of three double-spaced typed pages in Times New Roman 12 point. If you revise on the computer, either turn on "track changes" or print out all drafts.

As for all your major papers, please turn in all drafts and prewriting and save the graded work in your writing portfolio for the end-of-term portfolio review.

We will again be doing optional posting of drafts to Blackboard for peer review before the final paper is due.

Please turn in a HARD COPY on the day your assignment is due. Do not e-mail it to me unless you miss class for an excused absence.

Only 3 pages?

Ok...I would start out with what you think defines a roll model (don't...DO NOT asdf...I cannot stress this enough...do not use a dictionary definition)...describe a roll model in your own words. Then introduce your two role models and then say why your definition of 'role model' applies to these two people.

In the following paragraphs (I'd say two short paragraphs for each role model...one paragraph for why they are a role model and another for why you admire these individuals...the second paragraph is most important. The 'why' element takes your paper to a higher level because it analyzes your reasons behind your selections.

Then of course write your conclusion..."In sum these two people blah blah blah...". Do not repeat your points verbatim...but rather try to draw some sort of conclusion from what you have said...it doesn't have to be profound...just enough to draw closure to your paper and give the reader a sense that your paper was worth reading.

A don't forget the basics:
spelling/grammar
don't use big words if you don't know what they mean
don't use wikipedia as a source
read your paper over at least twice
check for awkward sentences/comma splices/run on sentences/etc

Keep it simple...this is a very short essay, so you don't need to be very verbose.

and it is short, so i can probably knock it out before class tomorrow

but that doesn't help the fact that i don't have a rolemodel...... I think I might use Jay Z as one but i don't know about any others

To be honest, abstract stuff like that paper of yours was always the hardest thing for me to write. Thankfully, most of my stuff was theory/history based and I'm much better at stuff like that.

This is not that abstract...at all, lol. Pretty straight forward...pick two role models and write why they are role models to you.

I wrote a 16 page research paper on 'the garden' in Canadian literature last year...now THAT was abstract.

Or looking at some essay topics for the first paper (8 pages) in my 3rd year class on Milton we have:

Virgilian Similes
Ovidian Comedy
Satan, Sin, and Ovid's Narcissus

It's abstract in the sense that there's a million different ways to respond to the prompt. Compare that to 'the influence of Arabic literature on classical European civilization,' which was the approximate topic of one of my 15+ page papers.
