Hey everyone,
Last weekend, I was wakeskating and tubing a bit behind my friend's sea doo when we turned around to pick someone up and accidentally ran over the rope. Unfortunately, the rope was cut by the propeller and the excess wrapped around the driveshaft. After flipping it over out in the water and trying to pull it out, we were unsuccessful because the jet ski kept taking on large amounts of water, slowly submerging it.
We got towed in and when we were near my dock, we used a knife to cut the rope out and it seemed to come out fine with no visible damage to the impeller or driveshaft itself. Because the engine compartment was completely full of water, we put it up on a lift and pulled the drain plugs and left it there overnight.
In the morning, the jet ski wouldn't start so we had to use kayak paddles to get us back to the boat landing to put it on the trailer.
I read online somewhere that sometimes the cylinders within the engine get flooded by the water and you have to wait for the jet ski to completely dry out before starting her up.
Let me know if you guys have had any troubles like this or you have any ideas.

FenderBass37, If the engine compartment was flooded you could have an effed up battery, starter, carb, but hopefully its none of those and you just need to let it dry out. Since it wasn't submerged long it should dry out and hopefully work. Good luck man. _________________ -Jordan Schwaller

take the spark plugs out
let it dry
turn it over with the plugs out just to make sure no water is in the cylinders
pray your starter and batetry are still good. |

TannerC, is right. if there was water in the engine compartment, what you should have done wouldve been to take out the plugs and flip it over allowing all the water to come out of the cylinders. water in the cylinders for more than an hour or so is badbadbadbad because it will cause rusting and basically the engine wont work anymore. go and get a new battery ASAP, and see if you can get it to turn over. if it will turn over, take the spark plugs out and crank the shizzle out of it untill you see no more water come out of the cylinders, this might take 2 batteries depending on the amount of water. you'll also want to get all the fuel out of the system (tank,lines,carbs,etc). _________________ 941 |
