|
|
My 13-year old nephew has been coming out skating a lot more with us lately, so I'm looking at buying him a new board for Xmas. Some info about his experience so far:
1. He has a strong skateboard background, and he is progessing quickly.
2. Most of the time he rides my '05 Integ Team - he does pretty well on it, but it seems a little big for him.
3. He rode my buddy's '06 TNT 39.75 & loved it -easily his favorite.
4. He has ridden our Satty Heartbreaker 41 - He says it feels a bit heavy & cumbersome, but I think that's mainly cuz he's used to the integ.
5. He has also ridden my 9-year old daughter's NEW Mini 36"; way too small (of course).
Of couse, we would love to hook him up with a new Lemons or TNT, but unfortunately those are out of our price range. So the two leading candidates are:
1. Sattelyte Harlos 40
2. NEW Mogley 39.5
We are extremely happy with our NEW & Satt decks; both are bullet-proof, so I need no convincing on issues of quality. Of course, neither will ride anyhing like an integ, but I think he'll get used to riding on wood in time. Since there's only 1/2" diff in length, would he really notice any difference between these two?
We're trying to make this a surprise for him; otherwise I'd just let him choose. Thanks for any advice you may have to offer. _________________ Life is short - live every day to its fullest. |

OverEasy, how tall is he and how much does he weigh. The mini might not be a bad choice for him if he is a small guy. the mogley is a great board though _________________ -andrew- |

| if he is just a little bit to big for the mini, then you could also try the NEW 38 austin pastura board, it looks pretty sick |

I don't really know his height & height, but I'd say he is average, not particularly big or small for his age.
The Devotid bi's look sweet, but IMO, bi-levels are for more advanced riders. He is still working on the basics, so I want to stick with a standard wood concave for his 1st deck. _________________ Life is short - live every day to its fullest. |

| OverEasy, id look into the 39 oak or the 40 NEW if those are in your price range. but if you have some money...go with the 38 integ. if he likes the 39 integ..he will love the 38. |

| OverEasy, the new harlos comes in a 39.5 and is a bit narrower then before. that would be a solid choice. but the austin pastura mogley 38 seems sick too if he wants something a little smaller. |

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I found a great deal on a '08 Harlos & went for it. It may be slightly big at first, but this kid is growing fast so I think it will be a good long-term deck.
TTUFAN24, not really. I'm supposed to wait until at least a year after the surgery (12/12/07) before I even try to ride again, and even then it's kind of sketchy. But I did break down last time we were out & carved around a little behind the boat. _________________ Life is short - live every day to its fullest. |

OverEasy, the new harlos shape i saw at expo this year was one of the most impressive shapes i saw. amazing looking concave, wont know until i ride one but it looks like a solid skateboard-style concave. im def going to try and pick one up this year.
news are amazing boards, my was bomb-proof. the new ones however are not as indestructable, actually are breakin landing wake2wake. they switch up their construction method along the lines and imo its just not near as solid as my board from a while ago.
oak will also have a 39 board called the chubby that looked great. short and wide like the name implies. would be great for a smaller rider with all that foot room for landing tricks. |

TTUFAN24,
We bought a surf board & gave it a try.....it's OK. To get a good surf wake out of our D-drive, we practically have to sink the thing, which makes us nervous. We are pretty limited with what we can do on the wake we get, so we get bored pretty fast. Maybe we just need some tips from someone with more surf skills.
Thanks for the props on the kids; since I haven't been able to ride, I've just been playing coach instead this year. Our daughter (9) is continuing to progress, and our son (7) is finally getting up on the K-39; now he just needs to figure out how to ride sideways. The new deck is for my nephew, who is already on the verge of riding away from his first shuv. _________________ Life is short - live every day to its fullest. |
