|
|
I just watched a vid of this guy winching in a ditch with a little rail
which is fine
but as i watched it i realized how stupid it was and how much better wakeskating it would be
b/c he had to pull the winch out and then sit there and strap in
and then all he could really do is spins
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8j7duMnTuw&feature=related
so theres the vid if u wana check it out
i wasn't gonna say winching with a wakeboard is stupid just b/c of stuff like the red bull winchmasters
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejsSIxQqKo0
and there is that vid
anyway
anyone else agree[/url] |

without a boat? i disagree, unless you're talking about every watercraft in general.
i have an 08 wake with the ballast, i don't wakeboard, but my friend does. he can do alot of stuff behind my ski. rolls, 540's, he even landed a scarecrow(i think? frontroll 180?) the other day. |

amosb72, yeah i definitely get where you're coming from, hitting a rail on a wakeboard in a ditch is pretty linear. i could definitely see where it'd be alot more interesting on a skate! |

in what sense is it scary
the fact that the rail in the vid was super steep and high
or the fact that they hav people in the world like that who ride a wakeboard and do ride ons like that
don't get me wrong
i mean props for trying
but fail |

You should check out that justin fischer guy (sp). I think that's his name. He's in that film authentic, and I'm pretty sure he was in one of the homeless vids as well (winching). he rides a "flex style" board (a roam) and totally kills it. I like it. He's re-defining his concept of what wakeboarding is, or where you can ride, what you can do, etc.
Plus dudes like kyle murphy jumping down that "season ender" gap. I think it's bananas.
I didn't watch that vid, but I guess my answer is no. People might watch some newbie wakeskater who's taking advantage of a flooded ditch and not doing anything worth clapping about, and think it's a total waste of time. Time is yours to waste as you wish!
I guess....I guess that's just the gift of life. (not that i"m crying, that's just for dramatic effetc) _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

what?
anyway can someone link me to one of those vids
i checked out the homeless teaser and it was ok i just think wakeskating is much more fun to watch behind a winch than wakeboarding
b/c wakeskaters can do almost all the tricks in there bag behind a winch where as a strapper needs a boat...unless they are crazy and can do like whirly dicks and shizzle off dropoffs |

| amosb72, wakeboarding behind a winch is much more like snowboarding in a rail park. its a whole different idea then snowboarding in a half pipe. |

I think that's a pretty good way to compare it. Not every rider is into doing flipty-dos on a wakeboard. And of course there's going to be a different kind of freedom on a wakeskate because you aren't attached. But with wakeboarding embracing the flex technology in whatever form (high end vs. low end) it's offering for some different aesthetics, stylistically speaking (like pressed blunt-styled slides, legitimate nosepresses, etc).
In my mind, I feel like wakeskating is more in touch with the water. That sounds crazy, but I mean that it's not JUST about doing your best to jump over the wakes and over the water. When the time is right, popping is important, but slayshing is as fun as ever, and you also have lip tricks, etc. But again, this could also be my own misperception, and maybe I'm not giving some wakeboarders enough credit. I don't wakeboard anymore, so it's hard to say. But I think flex boards are bringing back some of that accessiblity...like not having to jump to have fun. You can press your face off in the flats like it's snowboarding in 1992 or something...whatever.
This seems like it's going all over the place--I apologize. To end it, I was trying to say that part of what might seem worth while also comes down to ability and I guess working with what you have. Someone a while back was harshing flat land winching. But if you have a lake that's no wake, you do what you can to ride. On a similar note, not everyone is going to be throwing kickflips, or a front board back bigs off of rails. Some people will be doing very basic stuff and to them, that is fun and worth while. And that's where I'd lump the dude in the video above (because I did eventually watch it).
If you're narcaleptic (sp) I may not have helped your situation just now... _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

dirty
i like the snowboard assimilation
it was good
and had a good point
and then electric snow
though i dislike ur name
i like ur point and i guess the style could be part of it
and i guess ur right about the beginer winchers who arent good yet
but i was thinking about flatwater winching and how pretty much all u could do is like spins i guess? where as a beginner wakeskater might be able to at least do a shuv or something
idk
i guess it's personal opinion
if u would like i made a video and it's in the vid section called Gustav wakeskateing ditch or something like that go chekc it out and tell me what u think of it b/c in someone elses eyes it might be stupid sort of how i thought the original vid of this thread was stupid |

i didnt think the original vid was stupid, the guy was just having fun with a winch and his wakeboard. different strokes for different folks
and flatwater winching...for wakeboarders the possibilities are endless aswell as with wakeskating. one day we may see shaun murray throwing bel airs in the same flatwater that reed hansen is v-fliping idk thats just my 2 cents |
