Ok so my winch is just one of my prototypes so I dont want to spend tons of money on the paint until I have my final frame. I can get it painted for around 80 but car paint isnt that durable.I can get powder coating for free but it is galvanise and you cant powder coat that. What is a Good an durable cheap paint?

sandiego4real, since you'll probably be riding in salt water sometimes, i'd recommend getting a bed liner company to spray your frame with linex Very Happy thats what nekkie did with his winch... www.tahitimx.com/winch

sandiego4real, call up the spray on bedliner companies in your area, they should be able to give you a quote.

You could also try herculiner. it's roll on, but i used spray on liner on the bottom of my winch and it cracks and peels kind of easy. The herculiner will definitely not go any where no matter what. You can get it at Autozone or NAPA I think.

WAwakeskate - I agree. that aerosol spray on liner isn't nearly as durable as they say it is. Professional spray on liner is going to be your best bet in that department. Powder coating is probably the best finish you can put on a winch but it too will get messed up eventually. Winches are for using and having fun and that is not conducive to a nice paint job. Just use some nice out door spray paint so it's easy to touch up, then it always looks good but doesn't break the bank to maintain.

Herculiner is about 30 bucks a quart but it goes a long way, one quart would be enough to do the whole frame and maybe have a little extra. I used ACE brand rust stop or something along those lines and i think it looks good. It's fairly cheap and comes in pretty big cans so I can touch up anywhere that needs it. So far I've used about 4 cans and put it on super thick. Good points Donk.

My buddy that has a winch here bedliners EVERYTHING. shizzle even his phone is bedlinered. It helps that he does bedliner but his winch frame is bedlinered and it has held up.

ha ha ha...His last rail actually is bedlinered too. (I was looking through my pics for pics of his winch)
