Ya...newb here...still building.

Will we get chased out of a no-wake zone @ the lake?

Seems like the winch falls between the cracks of most laws...lots of grey area.

Is it advisable to try to get permission first (and risk getting denied) or wing it and wait for the officer to approach you.

just make sure your winch is

A. has wheels so you can make a quick run for it

or

B. light enough for 2 people to run with it

then you can winch anywhere you want Very Happy

are people really trying to outrun cops with the winch? haven't you ever seen cops before, it's a bad idea to run from the cops, especially if you aren't doing anything illegal.

I think you're probably safe winching in a no wake zone depending on the level of boat traffic. most likely you'd just get a warning and you'd probably be able to fight the ticket anyways.

I was totally joking about running and I'm sure everyone else was too. I'm pretty sure as long as you're nice and not a smart ass to the officer or whoever tells you to leave you'll probably be ok and for the most part unless the person telling you to leave is a total a$$hole you should only receive a verbal warning the 1st time

We've had run ins with law enforcement and even military police on the beach of a local air force base. None of them cared as long as they get no complaints, and there are no people in the way that might get clothes-lined or something. They've all been cool, they are all pretty interested in what we're doing and were nice, course we're nice to them too. Only one time beach patrol asked us to not winch and it's because it was a weekend/packed with people, they said to come back during the week when there are less people.

We have only got in trouble at the golf course and they just told us to never come back.
Other wise most cops think it is cool.
We got pulled over at 9 p.m. walking the winch across the street to the golf course and the cop just wanted to no that we didnt steal somthing! and than he just left saying the winch was a great idea Smash

Cool. Basically dont worry about until you have to.

I've been scouring google earth and found some spots, but i think the water looks dangerous. I'm in phoenix and there are all kinds of water collection ponds...probably just have to drive around and check em out in person. Also do no swimming signs @ city parks ect. count since a downed rider isnt considered a swimmer?

Check this spot out. Like 10 ponds here within 5 mins of my work...but the water looks questionable.

Anyone ride P-town?

From what I've been told around here in Arkansas if there is a no swimming sign then you can't be in the water at all Confused . . . . . Unless of course you don't get caught in the water Wink

It'll be fun finding spots....tons of little ponds around town, but I have a feeling I'll get pretty comfortable speaking with the authorities...Scottsdale popo's wear pretty tight panties.

It'll be funny to hear the BS they have to make up if they want us outta there.
