what is the difference in making a multi-layer skate rather than a solid one piece with concave sanded into it? is there a difference?

...can't wait to try and make my own skate. i got my brother into wakeskating so he is gonna help. he works at a body shop and works with shaping fiberglass and stuff so it should be fun

well to just sand concave into a board would take a long long long time and would be very labor intensive basically. Other than that no, not really.

jcoffey, you are going to need one thick piece of wood, and a good belt sander if you are going to get anywhere into that wood.

you can always try both

instead of trying to sand out the insides to make concave you can build up the rails and the nose and tail and then sand em smooth. its a little more work when youre sticking it all together but a hell of alot easier than sanding that shizzle.

laminating thin layers creates a stronger board then just one piece sanded down.

yea, sam hill is right, the more layers you use, the stronger it'll be.
