I have a 5hp motor that i got for free. From what i have read this will work fine if you get the gearing ratio/spool diameter right.
I am having troubles deciding between a #35 chain and a #41 chain. What do you guys think?
I plan on using a TAV2 since its such a small motor. What would you guys suggest for the gearing ratio (I know it depends on what chain I go with) and spool diameter? Deep water starts are not necessary but i would like to be able to do them if possible.
I plan on using a frame design similar to JeffKnox's what size thickness of steel would be good?
I have searched a few places and have a pretty good idea of whats going on, and before you give me the "use search button noobie" stuff just keep in mind that i like to have questions answered directly to my situation. Also just view it as a chance to get your post count up by answering.
Thanks |

It doesn't matter what size of chain you use. #35 -Bicycle chain (smaller) or #41 Dirt Bike chain (bigger).
Make sure your TAV matches your chain tho.
For the size of steel, 100 wall will be fine.
Gearing Ratio 12/60 with an inside diameter of 8 inches.
I would suggest a releasing spool since your going to be using a TAV...If you don't know, sometimes winches with TAV's are harder to pull out the rope. _________________ ~ www.integrity-wake.com ~ www.iwinchglobal.com ~ |

| Rugrat, you dont need a releasing spool. if you take care of you shiz then it wont be hard to pull out, and if it is then man up. and i don't think that 41 chain is the size chain you would find on a dirt bike. why not design your own frame cause while the frame your talking about works it has its flaws. |

| Yeah i didn't know how hard it would be to pull out...and i know the differences in the size of chains because i used to race go karts but i was just wondering which one everyone is using with a winch. I think i am going to go with a 35 because the parts are cheaper for them, and i have one left over from racing. And for the frame i will see how this one holds up because it is a pretty simple design, and if it doesn't work ill just make a new one. |
