|
|
Im new to wakeskating and looking to pick up a good board.
I have wakeboarded for years and am bored with it.
What would be a good board for someone who will move off the beginner boards pretty quickly?
fins or no fins? (i would like to do tricks and what not, cutting not as important except for speed)
Bare feet (foam/rubber) or Grip Tape?
Wood or Plastic?
Rocker?
Thanks in advance for your help!

thats what I like to hear
starting out I would go with a concave deck. As far as grip goes, I think you will enjoy grip tape better in the long run. Fins usually come with every board so I suggest trying fins and no fins and see which you perfer. and fins aren't used just for cutting, they help with traction and stability.
Personally I think wood feels beter on the water, but everyone on this site will just tell you to buy an Integrity.
and don't strive for progression, let progression come to you as you gain experience on the board

Support privately owned wakeskate companys, like -Supra-, said Oak or New are great. _________________

Grip-tape
Try a concave definatly, even a bi-level if your peckish.
Try sattelyte for a really sick concave. |

| Dont get some thing with all eva. Because the odds are your gunna like it and start to progress, then you are going to want to step up and get something a little more grippy. So just put some money into a good solid board. It will help in the long run. |

I think New, Devotid, Oak, Omen, Sattelyte are all good boards but imo for the $$$ and quality you can't beat a New _________________ Go Balls Deep Or Go Home |

Everyone- Thanks a lot for the helpful comments.
I'm going with wood and grip tape and will be buying a board momentarily.
It seems like everyone is in support of the concave deck.
The only thing I dont understand: Are there different levels of concave decks? If yes, how concave should it be?
What is the bilevel deck?
I weigh about 190 pounds - any particular size I should have?
Thanks again! |

| dude i have been wakeskating for only half a year and went through the same thing, if you have a local board shop most of the time they will let you try some out, I own the byerly legacy, the gator duce pop bi level, and the armada by liquid force. the bi level hands down. its easy to get up, its easy to track and very stable, its slower cutting but youll get used to it, just cut harder. and for tricks it is amazing, i landed the toe and heel side shuv it like nothing, ollie 90s to a grind are pretty fun too, but im no pro, these other guys that are better can tell you more, but if you can go to a local board shop, i heard the hyperlite vinyl is kick ass, but havent riddin it yet |

the vinyl is a boat. it seems like a solid board from what i've seen of it, but it rides sooo high on the water. _________________ i am the bear jew |

I weigh 190 and ride a 43" unless you plan on gaining some weight in the near future I'd stay between 40 and 42 . . . . Some boards do have more concave than others but it's all preference . . . . I haven't ridden bi-levels much but I will be getting one of my own very very soon http://www.newwakeskates.com/images/StandardBoard/final/DubStixBIG.htm _________________ Go Balls Deep Or Go Home |

| I really don't think that there is a "best skate" for kickflips. Kickflips are being done on almost every kind of deck. Kickflips take alot of practice. I like them better i/o becuase you have more air time |

Personally, I started out on a Hyperlite Catalyst 2.0, and It was the best board ever for learning how to wakeskate and do basic tricks. But I have an Integrity coming soon, and hopefully i'll progress a lot more on it.
But to answer your questions:
About the concave thing, I'm not exactly sure.
A bi-level deck is pretty much just a deck on another deck. here's a Picture.
http://www.m2sports.com/zoomify.asp?catalogid=225&image=http://www.m2sports.com/assets/images/ZARIEL_SIDE.jpg
And I weigh around 160, and I have a 38.65 in. deck. <---- Haha.
Hope that helps, bro. |

sandlake, devotid is droppin bombs right now, I'd check them out if I were you
Oak, New, and Oak seem to be doing about the same
Never rule out making your own skate, pretty fun and inventive.... what I did was made a few flats and concaves and then bought a devotid Bi Level |

| get a cheap wood flat deck. everybody always says to start out on a concave but there is really no point for a begginner, especially since ive usually seen begginers progress faster on flat decks. in fact, the majority of people on this site have probably never ridden a decent flat deck, only crappy scapes or LFs with foam. |
