To start with, this is just my opinion, I'm no expert.....

An "indo board", even a homemade one, would be the best way to start.
They are excellent for your balance, and can be used indoors.
Then buy a skateboard , and watch some instructional vids on you tube.
( ie: just look up how to ollie)
If you can ollie on a skateboard, it's a great help for wakeskating.
Be patient , practice , and you will learn.

No, crispy, that's not too bad.
Did you wakeboard before you learned to wakeskate?

I've never gone out yet so I'm still in the daydreaming stage, lol... (it's still cold here, man!)

Is it like a skateboard ollie, or more like I'm shoving the tail down and squirting the board out of the water? I mean, I wouldn't imagine there's that skateboard style lightning quick flick-pop ankle snap... since there's nothing hard to make the board bounce off of... unlike the ground and a skateboard, I'd imagine that the longer you held the tail down, the more potential "squirt" up you might even get, which would be totally different than a skateboard where you'd just be sadly skidding along as people teased you... geolemon, depends on what board your riding on how fast it reacts, for example, integritys are fast reacting boards

you just have to snap the tailand you create leverage off the water(more leverage = higher ollie) to pop it and your front foot will come up then you lift your back foot to level it out, its all a fluid motion

dragging you will not pop you still have to be quick with your feet, the faster you go the harder the water is so the faster you'll have to move your feet

Should my front foot be closer to the middle of the board or towards the front more. It seemed that when i tried them the board just fell away and went out of control. Like i know that on a wakeboard you can bounce on the tail when going for an ollie how come i couldn't on the wakeskate? was it my speed or just getting used to the size and feel?

well, the closer your feet to the tail, the higher the pop, but less stable, and vice-versa. you need to find a balance. just keep trying at it. itll eventually come, and you'll be sooo stoked.

i do not think a skateboard is key to practicing an ollie..it could be a litle bit but not much..i can ollie fine on a wakeskate and a skateboard..but i wakeskate goofy and skateboard regular..so my skateboard tricks have nothing to do with my wakeskate tricks since i am opposite..
and i do not roll my foot like i do on a skateboard..
practice other tricks on the trampoline..
its takes a lil practice tho..

I would say that it definately helps to be able to do an ollie on a skateboard for practicing it on a wakeskate. But if you canīt ollie on both of them I wouldnīt recommend to practice it first on a skateboard before trying it on a wakeskate. My experience is, that an ollie is way more difficult on a skateboard than on a wakeskate and so itīs more frustrating till you reach your goal.

I think being able to ollie on a skateboard definitely helps.
But you just have to get used to pushing the board down with you back foot then bring the front foot up to level the board out..
Practice makes perfect man.

I don't think it matters either way if you can ollie on a skateboard or not. I can ollie very high on a skateboard but i wasn't able to figure out the physics to do an ollie on a wakeskate for the longest time...

Here's what I tried today, which helped me land my first good ollies, about a foot : )

Make sure your knees are bent a little bit, and rolled forward slightly. Have a wide stance, with your back foot an inch or so from the tail, and your front foot a few inches from the nose of the board.

Practice lifting your front leg up, you will notice that the board shoot straight up and hit the bottom of your front foot.

Once you have the feel for that, the only thing you have to do is give your back foot a quick, but firm push down into the water, and then just hop off of your back foot.

Have your back foot follow the board up, while using your front foot to control and level out the board.

It is not a fast motion like a skateboard ollie. thats where i had the most trouble. My first move is to lift up my front leg, and the instant the board starts popping out of the water, give your back foot a quick jab, and ride out the ollie.

I know this is long, but it is step for step how i finally learned how to do it. good luck!
