|
|
I have a buddy we took out to ride yesterday. He's 6'2 220 lbs. He was riding a 41 and we just could not get him out of the water. The boat has more than enough power, but the second he would start to get up the board would sink and he was getting killed. So what size boards are ya'll riding? I was thinking he would be good on a 43/44.
Also maybe getting up is different for big guys. I'm 5'6 140 lbs, so I'm sure things will be different for him. We tried everything possible to get him up and no luck. Is there a trick to it? _________________ 10101 |

I dont think its the board he is riding. Tell him to stay in the squat position until he is out of the water. _________________ http://www.wakeskateclips.com/ |

Classy, Weird. Uidzero is the same size maybe a little bigger and he has no problem riding ANY of the new Integrity's. Walaka is taller and he can ride them as well I believe. _________________ http://www.wakeskateclips.com/ |

I was 220 last season and I was riding a 113cm(aprox. 45") flat deck and I also rode my buddies 39" it was a little small for me but I could still ride it. For someone in the 220 range a 41"-43" board should be fine. IMO anything over 43" is too big _________________ Go Balls Deep Or Go Home |

Classy, i guess this is one of the few situations when it's good for us to be smaller guys hahah!
i had a friend who was pretty big, especially in weight. i had him on a 43" armada and he couldn't get up even in full squat. i think sometimes it has to do with the strength of the person trying to get up. i don't understand how he could get up on a wakeboard and not a wakeskate behind the same boat? |

stay squatted and keep the board as flat as possible... people love to fight the boat and plow when getting up. I've never noticed a problem getting up with smaller boards. I rode Lemons little proto 40.whatever and it was just as easy as getting up on my 43" bigfoot. _________________ -Paul |

Yea. He can get up on a wakeboard, thats why I was thinking a bigger board can help.
He stay squatted and doesnt pull against the boat. But ride as the board raised, and I would normally pop out of the water...He starts to sink down until your can no longer see him.
Any advise? uidzero, Do that sound like he is fighting the boat maybe? It didnt appear that way. But I could be wrong. _________________ 10101 |

Classy, Tell him to keep his toes pointed up at a 45* angle and it should work for him. I have never heard of anyone with their toes pointed up and the board goes down before. The physics just dont make sense. _________________ http://www.wakeskateclips.com/ |

agree with Lollar and uidzero, if your plowing water its gonna be a alot harder, having the board at a slight upward angle while still underwater may help him gradualy rise up _________________ I run show where ever I go. |

So should he be leaning back? I'm not good at teaching bigger dudes. No matter what I do I generally just pop out of the water. I would assume the bigger you are, the more proper form you need. _________________ 10101 |

Classy, NO not really. He should be able to use the same way to get up that everyone else does. Its Physics _________________ http://www.wakeskateclips.com/ |

Classy, just make sure he doesn't try to stand up at all until he's totally out of the water and the boat is up to a good speed. I keep my weight over my toes to keep the board as flat as possible and my knees as bent as possible until I'm on top of the water. some boats will pop me up and then when I actually go to stand up I end up sinking back down, if that happens just tell him to stay squatted for a little big longer before he tries to stand up. _________________ -Paul |

Lollar, yeah it's physics, which is why it's way harder for a fat bastard without proper form to get up believe me I know! weight over the toes if you're having a problem sinking on start up will pop you up way faster. It puts less of a strain on the boat which allows it to get up to speed faster and thats what keeps us fat bastards on top on the water _________________ -Paul |

yeah took me(190lbs) a while to learn to get up on a skate
like they said, put loads of pressure on toes to get the water flowing under skate before standing up |
