coricluster, you cant honestly say a brand new 210 is not better in every way from an old closed bow boat. you dont have to worry about getting a new boat dirty either, but having pride of ownership is much more respectable. i agree the 2001 does throw a sick wake and is a great boat. i think its wrong that the xstar is pushed as the premier wakeboat, which it is, when to really push the sport they need to perfect a boat that only costs let's say base at 31,000 or so and top out at 45000 or something. yes still expensive, but much less than the pwt edition that msrp's for about 110.000

coricluster, I'm with you. In fact i'd trade you my boat and my ski for your 2001. Best boat out there IMO. The only new wakeboats that are really worth the ridiculous price tag, if you ask me, are malibu's. The wake is so customizable, as is every other aspect of the boat. They did one hell of a job making that wedge (and of course patenting it).

I'm only talking about the boats in respect to wakeskating. I know that these boat companies are making the boats for wakeBOARDERS, for which, they've accomplished their goal. One day perhaps wakeskating will have boats made specifically for it. They would be pretty awesome, i presume.

Of course they'd have some sort of ballast system (although not quite as dramatic as the boats today), and perhaps a wedge-type wake-control device, and perfect pass.

The overall goal of the boats would be different. They would most likely be smaller, the hull design would differ a bit. The shape of the wake would be a little different off the bat, but still very customizable to submit to the needs of the well-rounded rider. Colors and graphics would most likely change. They would be relatively contemporary and not so overdone like they are now.

Wow.. i just went really really far into a completely random idea Embarassed

haha oh well. I still think it would be interesting to see how boats would change if (when?) wakeskating took over wakeboarding and became the dominant wake sport. Cool

Not to get controversial here, but the argument could be made that an old 2 stoke outboard spewing oil/gas into the waterway is worse for the environment then a new "efficient" motor.....

With regard to emissions you may be correct. The engine on Lemons' ride looks fairly new though. In the context of carbon footprint it is not even close. Byerly's boat took way more resources to build and burns way more gas.

Side note to Shasta lovers like Scott A: get here early this summer. The lake is 63 feet down today, and some locals are saying 200 feet down by the end of summer. Another rumor is that gas will be $7 per gallon on the lake. It is already over $5.

Well, I'm sure it throws a wake just like any other 08 SANTE 210. The difference is that they took a page out of Malibu's book and ran colored gel coat all the way up to the top of the gunwales. I'm stoked that they're doing it though, because I think it makes the boat look super clean and not like every other generic cookie cutter black and white boat that they've done in the past. Hopefully they offer this gel pattern for their 08 or 09 boats.

The Bug, oh dang! Thanks for the head's up! Looks like my houseboat-owning friend will have some juggling to do in order to keep her rig in the water (last fall she had to move it out to a drydock due to low water levels). I honestly don't care about gas, though, because riding is usually one of the last things on my mind when I head up there. And if I ride, it's behind a ski...

we should meet up some time this summer if you're down.
