Dudes....
I am an old-schooler. I shot 35mm film. I have my entire life. I wasn't going to switch to digital, but I am just kind of getting sick of labelling slides and paying to get crap developed. I am finally looking to make the switch before I leave for Europe on Friday.
I've basically got $2,000 to spend (thank you Federal government).
I am looking at the Canon EOS 30D. 5 frames per second. Shoots RAW. My little brother is the digital camera guy. He has a Canon Eos-1 Mark III, but I am not looking to spend 10gs on a Camera. I basically just need something that shoots Raw, can take print quality party photos and riding shots, and is not going to put me in the poor house. Or...if I loose it while I am drunk, I am not going to cry.
Worth it?? _________________ Life's Kredo = "When the snake falls in love with the spagetti it's time to buy a new hat." & "I guess I need to whiskey up these corn flakes..and heroin up this Orange Juice." |

how much are you getting for the 30d?....
if your paying anymore than $800 than just get the 40d.
the mark III is nuts but i mean its very heavy and i mean if you loose it, you would cry for months. i would say get the 40d, its a great camera and brand new there like $1200 _________________ -andrew- |

i mean i dont know much about cameras but wouldn't he be better off buying a used 30D for fairly cheap off ebay and investing the other money he would save on a lense or two. The 30D does 5FPS does it not, but im def no pro so go on and critique me if im wrong _________________ www.jimizwakenskate.com

Dude, if your bro is rockin a 1DIII then I'd listen to his advice.
The 30D is a great camera. By going with the 30D instead of the 40D you're gonna save a bit of money and you're still getting a body that'll have more features than you'll probably ever use.
So get that and then definitely pick up a 70-200mm f4 for riding shots. Then figure out how much money you have left to spend and get a good mid-range zoom lens to help you remember what you did last nite.
Another benefit to going with a Canon body is that you can call your bro for advice if your on the road and one of your settings gets messed up or something goes to sh*t. And maybe you can mooch a lens off him if he's in town or whatever. _________________ facebook.com/TheLiquidPlayground

jonnyUTAH, I'll bring a complete Canon set to the trip across Germany, including a 30d with top-notch flash, extra battery holder and some expensive lenses. All I can say is: this cam rocks! But I join in on the suggestions to get a 40d if you can get it for just a little more money.
but scott has a point also with saving money on the cam and spend it on better lenses. the 70-200 F4 is a very good lense in both price and quality. _________________ Lars - - - Me German. Me not speach English very ok. |

| i went with the 30D for snowboarding photography, never regretted it. It is a great camera, and while I could never stop shooting film, this camera makes an easy transition. I has so many features that I feel like I find out how to do something new every time I pick it up. |
