how does everyone define a flicked kicky these days? where is the line between flicked and mobbed? the only way i can get the board to rotate is by doing it similar to the way horan does his, a diagonal flick where my ankle rolls to the side and my little toe is the last to leave the board. Ive seen kickys that are similar but dont involve the rolling of the ankle but still kind of flick off the board.

Not that I can do them, but to me what defines a good flip is the way it's caught and landed more so than the way it's flipped. Ruarks are pretty mobbed but look sick where as Pasturas are flicked and look sick, the common thread for both bein that they have pop to them, are caught high, and landed solid. When you see someone land one with their feet together or flippin it lawnmower or rocket style, it's still a sick trick, it just doesn't look as good.

I pretty much agree wtih feelnjstfine. It's not JUST about the flick, but catching the board as well, landing solid, etc. But with flicking, I think ben horan could be described as one extreme and maybe drew mcguckin as the other. Ben's got a full on flick, totally rolling his foot off the edge of the board AND leveling it AND catching it (compare it to some early danny hampson footage in sfumato, or maybe it's snap--he knew how to roll his foot off, but not all of his kickflips were leveling out yet). Drew never really flicked his flip tricks, but even so, he still popped the crap out of them, and was one of the earlier riders to begin to get them on the consistent side. Furthermore, he leveled them out and caught them high. (again, check sfumato or snap!)

some people mentioned thomas' kickflip in...issue 2?? I think that's it. For me, I think the back to back asterisk flips, or nearly any other kickflip of his is better, simply due to the fact that, while he did catch the board with his back foot, slow mo it...he pretty much lands one footed, didn't really get both feet on the board, etc. that's just an example, in my eyes, of needing everything to work out, as opposed to having one aspect of the trick perfected ie. just having a flick, back foot catch, etc.

EDIT: Pipo, maybe not to everyone, and that's fine. but if people want to have a discussion on style, let them (and it is important when it comes to those that are responsible for representing the art, because there are style benchmarks that other industries are familiar with). As always, nobody is forced to read anything on here.

He kicked down on it in that video part, kick forward to level it out looks the best.

I am relatively new to wakeskating, but can you not kick forward to do a kickflip on a wakeskate?

If the side of your shoe wears out before the bottom, then your where you need to be.
