I'm almost finished with my winch and I made a releasing spool for it. It doesn't take that much extra time or money and I think it's a nice feature to have. Just mount some flange bearings on the inside of the spool walls and dill holes in the outside hub flange and the axle and use pins. It's simple and it will work fine. |

about a releasing spool:
i always wanted one.................
but for some reason the spool is unwinding a lot easier with my new bullet line winch rope (before i used dyneema with nylon cover 4mm, does not float)
i have a released winch spool, but i am not gonna use the releasing part of it.
releasing spool NO
break: yes _________________ http://www.wakeskating.nl/fullpull.html

My buddy has a 5.5 Honda, would that plus a tav be good enough to pull my 170lb a$$ out of a deep water start? |

waterweasel, depends on the quality of the engine, your gear ratios and the weight of the rope and spool...
but yes it can work if you do it right _________________ PAVT since '05/'06 |

I haven't read much of this thread.
But i was inking about my winch, and this last night. What about having something like you have on a trailer, that little clicky thing where you wind it up.. you move that little clip thing to off when you are winding out the rope so it will spin freely, and out it back in so it will only go one way when pulling the rider.
Just a thought, hope it makes sense. |

the releasing spool is very nice. i'd say get one if you are using a torq a verter. as for the brake, if the driver watches the rider he can cut the gas and prevent line pop/backlash. i wish i had a brake, but it's just something else to worry about. if you get one though im sure you'll be glad _________________ "I said take me to the sea, cause that is where I want to be. TannerC, something like that would be sweet. i don't know how you could transfer that idea over to a winch.
what about a releasing sprocket. would this have any benefits/disadvantages over a releasing spool. seems like you might be able to get by with one bearing instead of two. |

Jordan Sprague, your operator of the winch must suck, your suppose to stop it before it hits you in the head. _________________ ~ www.integrity-wake.com ~ www.iwinchglobal.com ~ |
