Thanks De Oro, pic really helps. And to clear everything up for everyone, i'm only 170, and i'm planning on getting a 6.5hp engine. None of the guys that i ride with weigh over 180, so i'm figuring a 6.5 should be enough.

From that picture it looks like they fixed that issue with a nice thick collar. |
They sure didn't fix mine!
I called Ken Land and told him that my spool broke. He tried to blame it on me. I told him that I thought these spool's are under engineered. He said they weren't, and out of the couple hundred they have sold, he’s never heard of one breaking. He told me If I wanted it replaced, I would need to talk to Released.
So I call Released. He told me that he had broken some himself and he would send me a stronger one. He sent me the same garbage Sch. 40 collar and a bigger pin.
I paid 200 dollars for my SCRAP METAL SPOOL. It’s got scratches all over it. Look's like it was cut with a hand saw. If that garbage were to leave a shop I owned, I would have canned the employee for sending that to a customer.
WTF? Why does TAD's spool have a BILLET collar, if the garbage you sent me wasn't under engineered?
Why did you send me this garbage TWICE? That shiz has been sitting in the corner of my garage for over a year now.
I just want what I payed out the nose for. Who charges $200 for scrap material, one weld, and Home Depot hardware?
I thought about building another winch just to get rid of this spool, but I couldn't do that to another wincher. If anyone wants a "stronger" Released spool, I got one for sale!

Why is mine different? You just said yourself you've had the thing sitting for over a year, so it doesn't sound like you tried too hard to fix the problem. Obviously in that year you've had it sitting, they have fixed the problem. That's why my spool has a different collar. Instead of raging with your 20pt bold fonts, why don't you try to contact them and I'm sure they would kindly replace your hub and swap out your home depot hardware for lowes hardware.
thefunky31, keep it up with all the positive stoke.

I did tell them what happened. He sent me the same garbage with a bigger 5/8" pin.

TAD, Sorry but when the spool broke we were all pretty pissed. I think we had been only skating for like 30 mins and then we had to stop and figure out how to nigger rig the shizzle so we could keep skating. Jason paid 200 bucks for that damn thing and he got ripped off pretty much. It was a very sad day...

CGA PFD, I did read it. Three times. Read what I said. It's called advancement, "bru." They have fixed the problem. I'm not trying to be an jerk, but it's unnecessary to come on here bashing a product from over a year ago, instead of taking your issue directly to the company. That's like me posting my broken 06 impulse on here and raging "I PAID 200 DOLLARS FOR THIS BOARD I WANT MY MONEY BACK LIQUID FORCE SUCKS!"

Dude, my beef isn't that it broke. I complained about WHAT broke and all he did was send me the same crap that wasnt strong enough to begin with.
LF's huh, good comparison. Those boards were manufactured in China. He supposedly make this stuff himself. So tweaking the design isnt like telling a factory in China to use different material and press boards in a different manner.
What if LF said, "My bad, it was a problem we were having. Let me send you the new and improved version of our board. This one should be bulletproof. We have strengthend the weak parts."
And then, 2 weeks later, you get the same garbage that broke on you with a new, improved pin!

CGA PFD, I was making a point that companies improve every year. Boards break. Machinery breaks.
You are still bashing a year old product when you clearly just saw that they have better quality hubs now. I don't see what posting an old picture is going to solve when a phone call is obviously much more effective.

CGA PFD, that was our very first releasing spool design. unlike what ken told you we actually did have problems with it breaking, so... we came up with a new hub that is much stronger and we have had zero problems with it. anyone who had a problem with the original spool we kindly switched it out. we sent you the same spool twice because we were still working on the design of a new hub so we sent you a new one hoping it would hold up better for you. some of the original spools held up perfectly fine, we figured if you had a problem with it again you would let us know and we would probably have had the new hub ready for ya. i know its a pain when something you buy breaks twice but i cant do anything to help you feel better about the situation if you dont contact us.

1. did they charge you for the new spool?
2. did the second spool break as well?
if anyone has problems with their winches please do not contact ken... he deals with ropes not winches... contact chris or john at released winch and explain to them what happened in a dignified manner... these guys will help you out

It never broke twice. I never gave it a second chance. As soon as i saw the replacment you sent me, I threw it in the corner of my garage. That was enough for me to never use that product again.
In my eyes, you should have sent me the one TAD got the first time i bought it and after it failed!
You could have fixed the problem, but you sent me the same problem.
released, If i send you the spool back, will you send me what i needed in the first place? Please?

I think I might beef up my spool attachement and drill a hole so I can release my spool as well. Daniel Douds Pulldozer had this done and it looked tite. It seems it would be alot easier especially when you are trying to get some stealth/quick runs in before the local authorities kick you out...which has been hapening to me everywhere...
thefunky 31-you might want to change your wording on your comment about N&$^@# rigging
No room for that negative word on WS, we are all about love!!!!!
Hope you have a smooth day and good luck with the spool situation

CGA PFD, i have one of the old hubs too. As soon as my pin started to bend and tear apart the hub a little I expanded the size of the pin and drilled the hole out bigger. After I used the bigger pin with the same hardware, the spool worked fine and ive never had problems since. I told the released guys of this problem and thats when they started to build better hubs. Instead of pushing aside the spool because they gave you the same hub but a bigger pin, you might want to try the bigger pin out. Hell you could have been winching for the last year. I know they have better hardware now though so deffinately get in touch with released and im sure they'll send you the new releasing design.

CGA PFD, well then you should have contacted us when you were unhappy with the second spool. instead you stuck your spool in your garage and came on here what you say is a year later talking trash about a problem that has been fixed.

^
Like I said before, dont listen to his ideas on winches, he has a engine in a litter box with mouse wheel as a spool. And from people telling me you doin burnouts in the grass at Metro, thats just bein a 16 year old with his first car, hell maybe a 14 year old takin his dads car for a joy ride. Lighten up or get out. your negativity is just like your riding, ugly
