First, I finally started brewing my own beer. Our 3rd one just finished (an 8% Weisen Bock). The 2nd was A sierra Nevada Celebration Ale clone, and the first was a 10% Belgian. If any of you have consideres brewing your own beer, DO IT! You don't save a whole bunch of money, but it's a lot of fun, and quite rewarding to drink the fruits of your labor.
Second, anyone have any good beer lately? I've prob had a minimum of 100 new beers in the past couple months, and it continues to rise every week. I've actually started collecting a bunch of good stuff, so if anyone makes a road trip to CA, I'd be down to trade/buy some stuff from the east coast.
Here's a little of what I've had lately, (if you're wanting to trade or anything, i can generate a list of what I've got hidden away)
Brasserie de Rochefort, Trappistes Rochefort 8

My brother is really into brewing beer. He took a class at UC Davis on beer brewing. So yeah, he's into it, but I won't touch it because he's a gigantic Sam Adams fan and that is the one and only beer that I actually refuse to drink. _________________ facebook.com/TheLiquidPlayground

I find collecting beer really difficult.. How do you not drink them? There's probably an expiration date for brews too right? It's not like wine or spirits, won't keep for too long.
wakeskate242, I'd offer your an icy cold Tiger if not for the distance but you can probably find some over there. Shouldn't be too difficult. _________________

Chimay, is very good. It's always my go to beer, if I have to go to a Vons for beer, or a bar randomly has it on tap. I have a soft spot for Chimay Blanche.
doubleg, Most of the beer I'm sitting on right now can, and will, age with time. Depending on the beer, you can keep it for anywhere from 1 to 10 years. Strong Ales and Belgians are usually the ones being kept, and on an average, 1-3 years. It's not really aging like wine, but rather mellowing out and developing. There are beers that age, but when you start getting up to 14+%, It's really not what I consider beer anymore. The Stone Vertical Epic series was specifically crafted to be aged a long time. Every year from 20001 to 2012, they brew on the date (ie 01/01/01, 03/03/03, 07/07/07) and in 2012 when the series is done, you drink them in sequential order and really understand how a beer evolves. From what I've heard though, they'll prob only keep 3-5 years realistically. I just really enjoy drinking 2 different years back to back, sometimes it's a huuuge change.
I haven't had, nor seen, Tiger, but I haven't been looking either. What kind is it? Lager? Are there any pale ales or ipa's that are brewed over there?
Yes, it's extremely hard to know you have a box of some of the best beer in the world just 5 feet away, and not drink it, BUT that's why you always buy 3 bottles. 1 to drink and 2 to keep. That way if you simply can't resist or you want to see what 6-9 months does to one, you'll still have 1 more.
KEEF, you have fun bonging that vodka, let alone keeping it down... Even bonging the beer that I listed would put you down for the count.
For every action, there is an equal reaction... The beer bong is in response to such shotty beer being made. The only way everyone can drink it is to get as much as you can down, as fast as possible, so you can't taste how bad it really is. (same with shot-gunning a beer, haha). _________________ good people drink good beer ~ Hunter S. Thompson |

I'm not much of a beer drinker but when I drink it's usually Sierra Nevada, Magic Hat or Anchor Steam. Have you ever heard of Bare Knuckle? I was at the Flyers game the other night and saw it on tap so I tried it.. DAMN!!! I'm hooked.. it's a very dark stout (chocolate?) and only available on tap, _________________ ------------------------------------------------------

I think Sam Adams tastes horrible. I dunno...just not a fan at all. And with so many other beers out there that are so delicious, I'm not about to go out of my way get some when I can have Stella or Fat Tire or Sierra or Anchor Steam or whatever...
Damn. This thread is making me miss this little sandwich place in Berkeley that would only carry 4-6 kegs of some really good microbrews (nothing mainstream like bud/coors). I think one of them that I loved was Blue Star. Anyone heard of this one? (It's not Blue Moon...) _________________ facebook.com/TheLiquidPlayground

I don't drink beer either, but this is cool because my family is really into making their own alcohol. Most of them do their own wine and are very into wine in general (but are not actually winos). My brother in law (and for awhile, my brother) make their own beer as well.
they're all into the micro brews as well...like something called spotted cow by new glarus (http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/). They also like some of the seasonal brews by leinenkugles (sp), which I think is made in chippewa falls, WI. And of course they like the stuff from overseas, like guiness and boddingtons.
my brother likes coors light. it now comes in plastic bottles with plastic screw caps. we now tease him and say he's drinking bottled water. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com*

soy escuala, Just looked them up and I've only had their Purple Haze. I'd be down to try their Imperial Pilsner, Saison, Select Pale Ale, Belgian, and Christmas Ales though. Which ones are usually on tap over there?

I am school, Beer is an acquired taste. Don't be such a gay.
wakeskate242, Amber and Amber Bock are both really good. Better than Haze I think. I had the Christmas Ale once and it was pretty good. Kinda sweet though, seems like it would give you a nasty hangover in the morning. _________________ I like to choke when my team needs me the most, no Romo. |
