Is there a limit on what hp engine you can use with a torq a verter? I think I've seen that they are rated up to 8hp. Will they just not mount on engines with more hp or does it put too much stress on the torq a verter.
I'm looking at engines on ebay and wanted to know if i should stick with the typical 6.5 hp or if i can find a 9-10 for a good price if i should go with that. |

You can get a TAV for a 1" bore engine. You could go up to something like 13hp with one of those. Something like a comet 40 series would do.

I've got a TAV2 on a 13hp 3/4" shaft. Most engines have a four bolt pattern that will fit one of the sets of holes on the TAV. The belt is the weakest part of the TAV, but I've yet to lose one.
To pick the right engine, you need to ask yourself...
How much do the heaviest riders weight, that you are going to be pulling ?
Are you going to be deep water starting them?
If you weight under 200lbs, I would just rock a 6.5hp with a TAV2. If you are going to be pulling more than 200, then I would buy anything over 6.5 that you can find for a great price.
I would try EBay or www.smallenginewarehouse.com
They have the best prices and choices. Just stay away from fixed throttle engines or ones with out gas tanks.
I personally like Briggs & Stratton Intek engines. They have adjustable governors so you can set the maximum rpms wherever you like it.
Oh yeah. Once you start getting into higher hp numbers, the output shafts start getting bigger. TAV2's only except a 3/4 inch or 1 inch shaft. _________________
