I've only ever heard of one problem due to "over revving". That was throwing the magnet for the ignition coil out of the flywheel. It actually happend to me on an 8hp Tecumseh. The magnet got lodged between the flywheel and the coil. Went from "over revving" to ZERO RPMS in a heartbeat.
Buy American... just not Native American.
