WOAH, a warlock sighting! I have not seen you on here in awhile and I was just thinking about you (you were supposed to be in FL during the toe jam with your daughter)!

No problem! I checked out ebay first and then did some web searching...definitely no need to buy a holga on ebay with Mr. Holgamods around...

I know I'm in the minority, But I'm just not feelin the holga. I know it's the hot new thing in the wake scene right now, but It's just not my flava. I would rather shoot film with a proper camera that works Twisted Evil . I can see the artistic side of it for some stuff, but for the most part it just doesn't do anything for me, and I've felt this way for a while about it.

I don't know much about cameras, and don't feel like looking it up b/c there is a lot of camera terminology that is way above my head... but is a Holga the same thing as a Lomo? (short for lomography maybe?)

I've seen someone with an old looking camera they called a Lomo, and the pictures looked somewhat similar to this, but to a further extent... like the colors were distorted more (if that makes any sense)

senorbueno, same difference as far as I've read/heard. It's just another brand of camera, that's all. They're both lomography cameras.

RUSSIAN, i feel the same way... i mean these days if you have the right software and know what your doin you can make the pic look however you want... and its alot easier to get the shot you want with a faster cam and then edit it to millions of different lighting effects and such... just my .02

ya she does, rockin that old school canon. Who needs digi Very Happy I dont know I would rather just get the image I want rather then spend time working with photoshop for hours trying to reproduce something. Plus you have more of a feeling of accomplishment when you get that perfect photo straight off the film. Incentive, so is 220. Got some of that almost ready to be developed. I think I have some stuff on there from toe jam dangggg

JAM, I get what your saying, I would much rather get the shot in camera then post, but it seems to me that you could get similar results from a camera that works. Yes it would cost alot more, but if your into photography you should realize it's not a cheap hobby. Plus I really feel like this is a fad in wakeskating right now. The portrait you posted on the first page is a perfect example of what MF can do, and I really like it. I'm just not into using shoddy equipment

It's a different type of camera for a different style of photography. Nobody in their right mind would pick up a Holga thinking they're gonna go get a cover shot or 2 page spread. But if you wanna shoot some stuff just for fun or whatever then it's totally fun to play w/ something like a Holga. I dunno...even after shooting thousands upon thousands of pictures with nice equipment, there's just something so fun in making pictures with this seemingly crappy little piece of plastic. If I still had access to a well maintained darkroom, I'd absolutely have one.

Whether or not it's a fad isn't really a huge deal IMO. It's just fun, and it's getting more people into photography. Besides, this sport could always use a few more solid photogs. Maybe this Holga craze might convince a few people to pick up photography on a more serious level?

ya your right. It does seem like once everyone saw a. reed and d. hampson using one then they decided that they should get one too. I have had mine long before I first saw that, and I was lurken on holga websites to get more inspiration. I agree that this stuff isnt cheap, but I do like to change it up from seeing the same pic over and over you know? Sure the pics are distorted and blown out around the edges but I think it keeps me going. It is its own style of photography. I dont usually go out and shoot wakeskating with it. Like I said it is my fun, cheap, plastic portrait camera. Holgas can be expensive. If you try to get one perfect photo of something you will find yourself eating up 4 rolls before you get what YOU want. Thats why I use it for fun, and the roll usually sits around till I have 10 bucks to get it developed and put on a cd.

I have a Holga SF. I modded my lens from 3ft to 2ft. if you take it all apart there is a screw you loosen and it will just spin off. To change th fstop take it all apart and there is this plastic slide when you turn the flash on so I put some tape over it and drilled a hole with a 1/8" drill bit. I read that they have an fstop of 13 with 1/250 shutter. I think if you can find a GSFN it has a 6x6 and a 4x6 insert, BULB exposure, tri pod mount, and I'm not 100% but it might have a glass lens. I painted mine with silver so it looks like a two tone camera from the 70s. I love 'em but they aren't cheap. In MN its like 40 buck for 16 shots so I have a Canon G9 that I set one of the custom settings to what a Holga is so when I'm shooting my Holga I shoot my G first to see if its a good shot.
