Got a new toy.
Picture before I opened:
Don't worry kids, I don't have an effigy. Just came in that box. But still! On to the goods!
The very last Omen Revolt ever made:
But my wubya tee eff question mate is:
HOW THE EFF DO I APPLY THE GRIP TAPE WITHOUT HAVING SMUDGES!!!!11one
I've tried to put it on 3 or 4 times and always have a bump/smudge in the grip tape:( I've never been good at applying grip tape. Not even pre-cut=/ I want it to be perfect but I absolutely frickin' suck donkey balls at applying it.
Any pointers? |

| Oh yeah, I promise I'm not re re jones here guys. I have a 24" vinyl plotter and know how to apply stickers and the like. I usually tape one end to the object(skate) and then peel back the brown part then apply it gently. I can't understand what I'm doing wrong or if there's a certain way to apply grip tape to a wakeskate. |

I would just peel off an inch or two on one edge of the sheet of grip, fold it back and leave the rest on. Line up the sticky edge on the wakeskate and once you have it set on the board (after gently patting down the grip from side to side to avoid air bubbles, and starting at that beginning edge and working in), peel the rest of the backing off and continue to pat the grip tape down. Don't put the whole thing on at once or you won't be able to a) evenly press it down to avoid air bubbles and b) the grip may not be on completely flat and you'll get weird ridges.
But yes, make sure that the side you stick down is nice, even and flat. Then the rest of it will be a cinch, so long as you pat down the grip. If you screw up from the beginning, the rest of it will be effed. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Why don't you lay off the donkey balls and try working it from the centre out. Look at the concave on that thing, its the only way to get it with out bubbles. I would lay it in place with the backing still on and mark the centre of the skate and the centre of the grip then peel the entire backing and start with each end in the centre and work your way out. _________________ Bindings? Mr. Top Hat,
I know it probably tickles your fancy to try and pwn me but try again.
I didn't make an entire thread asking how to apply grip. I made it to show off my new toy. I also had a quick question about the grip.
electricsnow, I did exactly that. I want to think the grip it cut unevenly. I will try the deepcove method. |

do it like a skateboard, just put the full sheet on and then razor blade the excess off. trying to pre cut it and get it on perfect is near impossible, unless you're a diesel technician, then it's easy _________________

NaRC-P rider, not pre cutting anything. it came shaped like the board itself(ie. the producer cut the grip tape).
i just think the cuts are bad/uneven. |

urinal mint, the best way to apply the grip tape is to get a skateboard truck with one wheel on it and get a razor blade. You start by peeling about 2 to 3 inches of the grip sheet off to expose the sticky side. Start from one end and using the truck and one wheel wheel it back and forth (from side to side) this way you get pressure completely across and enough pressure. Use the blade to puncture a whole in the bubbles you come across and role the skateboard wheel across it so the air will escape and flatten out.
MOST IMPORTANT PART IS TAKE YOUR TIME.

Did you apply side to side? I think you're supposed to go tail to tail, at least that's how I gripped my Integ and all my skateboards. Try it out if you still got the same grip. _________________ I like to choke when my team needs me the most, no Romo. |

urinal mint, have you put on the other grip sheets on yet? Try setting the pieces on before removing any of the backing, just so you can see how it's going to sit on there and you can better judge where to put it. Looking at mine (i bought the other one but I'm not gripping it), it looks like the grip sits just inside of where the concave starts.
And whether you go tip to tail (which is more common) or side to side with this one, seriously just go slowly, and make sure you work evenly. If you work carefully, and make sure that grip is evenly set down all the way on the concave, you can work out the air bubbles. If it's pulled tight and set on carefully, there isn't any reason to have huge air bubbles like you have above. All i can say is take your time because once you figure it out, you'll realize that it's not necessary to make it harder than it really is. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
