lower the gas prices

a guy wrote in to my local paper and here's his idea on how to lower gas prices:

if everybody stops buying things from the gas station stores and tells them that you arent going to buy anything until gas prices are $1.50 per gallon.

the food distributors would loose money and the stations would have no choice but to lower the gas prices

Yeah, but then the gas station would go out of business. The gas station doesn't control the major price of the gas. Say the gas is $2.25, the Gas station may purchase the gas for $2.18 from the distributer. It's not the gas station, it the oil companies overseas that control the majority of the price.

Let me tell you guys, my dad owns a gas station, and you think he is making more money cuz the prices are higher? ABSOLUTLY NOT. Infact he is in the slum of his life, he layed off the weekend guy and has to work weekends. he is making less and less moeny the higher then gas prices go because he only makes 3-5 cents per gallon to try to keep it low FOR THE PEOPLE. Before the gas would pay for the rent and the beer, and other beverages and snacks would be our income. now we have to depend on the store for the rent cuz gass is selling SO slow compared to before. The terrible thing about the gas business, even if my dad has no money to buy the gass they will come fill up his tank and take money right outa his bank acct like nothing. So he is almost constantly in debt. So all im trying to say is DONT BLAME THE THE GAS STATIONS. Blame the oil companies or whoever distributes the gas. It is in no way shape or form the ower of the business's fault. Thanks.

I'm surprised the cell phone industry isn't raping customers(yet) like the oil industry.

We're so convinced we need certain things to live that we will pay anything. They could charge $2/minute and we would still pay it(the majority) because we're sso convinced that's what we need in order to live.

my dad is one of those wealthy oil company guys..... and yes it's true they are turning profits, but it's completely ridiculous to think that boycotting gas stations is gonna do anything to change the price of gas. all it's gonna do is screw over the little guy, (-=AlexXx=-, i'm not refering to your dad as a "little guy") i mean that the energy giants (oil & gas companies), are so big and powerfull that your not gonna hurt them, your just gonna destroy the lives of those people that work down the line from the giants.. i.e. the local gas stations.

the only reason gas is so high is taxes. there are to many taxes on gas. now we are going to use french fry oil in our carfs.
