hey does anyone know of a company that makes a larger wakeskate for bigger boys--i currently ride a 116 catalyst from hyperlite, but it is hell getting up on it--maybe because of the concave also--i can do it but it wears me out. i was hoping somebody made something a little bigger than 45x16--let me know if anyone knows of a company or skate that is a little bigger.

goynesbg78, how big are you?? Maybe its your technique getting up that makes it hard.

conwest is right. It's probably your technique of getting up. However if you really feel it's necessary, CWB makes (or made?) a 45" skate called the Deck.

Dude the catalyst is plenty big for everyone to get up on! Try working on your starting technique. If you buy an even bigger wakeskate and use the wrong technique with that it will make it even harder to get up!
Try holding the board in one hand and the handle in the other and have the driver just put it in forward idle. Then get both your feet on the board, get comfy and then let your ass come towards your heels when the driver accelerates. You'll be out of the water in no time without having to fight the line with stiff legs...

Either that or tray standing on the board in the water and rise up on it as the acceleration comes.

Alternately I just remembered this Rolling Eyes http://www.wakeskating.com/tricks/getup.php

Have fun Very Happy

Yep my homemade skate is 47" that is big enough for anyone and his family to get up......I can get up on a 43" skate but I am 6'7" and wear a size 16 that is why I build a bigger skate, but it is easier to get up on too! I weigh around 350 lbs.....so a little horsepower and a bigger board makes it easier! But it is all in the technique......

thanks for all the feedback, i have wakeboarded for a few years now, and getting up has never been an issue, and it seems that some of the other skates i have used, flatter and more square that is, were a little easier to get up on. some of my buddies that are 200+ have noticed the amount of xtra work in involved in getting up on the catalyst as well. i would like something with a little more surface area for when i am riding behind the wake edition jet ski at my nlaws--it will not pull me up--it rather drowns me on this particular board--i am 6'3" and about 255, i ride a 143 wakeboard cwb platinum wakeboard and pop right up behind just about anything, including the jet ski. I get up fine behind my buddies supra, but it just feels too much like an olympic weight-lifting contest, and i know in a perfect world i would be skinnier and stronger and might have better technique, but it just seems like it shouldn't be quite so much work to get up. I am fully aware most wakeboard companies do not make products with people my size in mind, and that is cool, i know we are the minority in this sport, but if i can make me life a little easier--i will definitely do it--hence the post--thanks again for the info

goynesbg78 that is why I made my own board....so now I can ride a few times a day....and it doesn't feel like an olympic weight lifting competition Wink
But I think the guys from New Wakeskates can help....And try to find your solution in the width of your skate not the lenght!

goynesbg78, I've never ridden one, but I might suggest trying the New Waekeskate. I saw a kid killin' it on one at KCW at the comp last last weekend. Additionally, when I started skating I went throught hell getting up cause' I really hadn't ever even wakeboarded. I watched the trick tips on how to deep water start and I have never had a problem since. Come to think of it, I do a hybrid start. I lay on my back with my heels on the board until the slack is taken up. I let the idle push the board to the bottom of my feet. I have the driver do a fast yet gradual take-off. As soon as I feel the boat pulling, I push the board a foot or so under the water and continue up like a deep water start. With this method I can get up behind a small fishing boat. You just have be damn sure your board isn't plowing. Good luck, and definitely watch some of the vids in the trick tips section. It is a true life-saver.

goynesbg78, you definitely can't go wrong with new wakeskates. I ordered a custom for my husband a few weeks back. He is 6'0" around 220lbs; and LOVES his NEW wakeskate. Really a comfortable and aggressive board.
