I really need to set up some blogging software on this site to bore you guys with. Until then, I'll just use the Non-Wakeskating forum....
So yesterday my wife and I decided to take our dogs for a walk in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, when the neighborhood we currently live in was developed, they decided that sidewalks weren't very important, so we have to walk in the street. And every time we take a walk, the same thing happens. As soon as we get going, our street turns into the Indy 500 and about 40 cars zoom by us going way over the posted speed limit. My wife is smart enough to realize that we shouldn't even take the risk of walking down the street because one idiot dialing on their cell phone going 50 mph could easily not see us and wipe our whole family out. But I guess my male ego thinks that I am invincible and that we should not let these jerks ruin our enjoyment of walking our dogs. (Note to self: listen to your wife and not your male ego.) Nevertheless, usually by the time we get half way down the street, I am so aggravated by the speeding cars zooming so close to us that I am no longer enjoying the walk and am letting everyone know that they are #1 (note the sarcasm). Well, this time, someone didn't like being called #1.
On a numerous occasions, this one jerk in a Ford Mustang with some jacked up exhaust (no muffler = very loud) passed us probably going about 40 to 50 mph (no exaggeration). So guess who is speeding down the road this time...yeah, you guessed it. As he passed by, the wind from his speeding car knocks us off of our line somewhat. We gathered ourselves, my wife and I both wiped the dust out of our eyes and immediately let this guy know he was #1. Apparently he didn't see us and pursued on to his destination. About 2 minutes later, he was heading back out and did the same thing again going in the other direction. We both decided to let him know he was truly #1, but this time he stopped and started to reverse.
Expecting an altercation with this moron, I was also curious to see what he had to say. As he backed his POS car up to us, he asked if we "flicked him off". I said yeah I did and to slow the "F" down! My wife also tells him to slow down. He then says that he didn't come close to us and then begins to just stare at me as if I were a bucket of Popeye's fried chicken and he hadn't eaten in two days. Next he says, "flick me off now." I laughed out loud and just said to go on and get out of here. He then called me a "p---y", revved up his engine and drove off going even faster. I gave him a thumbs up and would have gladly played the Top Gun theme song for him if I could have. The guy actually told me to shoot the bird finger at him on command. I guess that was the best thing he could think of at the time, I don't know, but I thought it was pretty lame.
So as we headed back home, my wife was very upset by the entire situation. My male dog didn't care for it much either and decided to take a poop right in the middle of the street. He has never done that before, but I just looked at him and said, "Yeah, that is what I think about that guy too." I have not had anything like this happen to me since I was in high school. The guy called me a name and then took off. I guess he might have wanted to fight if I would have "flicked" him off when he asked me to, but I didn't think it was worth it, so I just told him to leave. I would have fought the guy if he got out of his car and threatened my wife, my dogs or me, but I preferred just telling him to leave without starting anymore trouble. It is bad enough that we now have a "thing" with this guy down the street, which I'm sure will not be over just yet, but a fight definitely would have made things a lot worse. Plus, my dogs probably would have attacked the guy and then we would have had some very serious legal problems.
Since nothing good came out of this stupid episode, I figured there was a lesson to be learned and once I figured out what it was, I was kind of glad it all happened the way it did. The lesson I learned was that I should not try to be the police. I should not give someone the finger for speeding down my street, cutting me off in traffic or pretty much anything. I was lucky that the guy didn't pull out a gun from inside of his car and threaten our lives. These days, you just don't know what people are capable of. There are situations where you have to stand up for yourself and defend yourself, but this would have never happened if my wife and I would have controlled our emotions from the beginning. Otherwise, it isn't worth what could possibly happen over such petty crap. We should have not said or done anything, got the license plate number from the vehicle and reported it to the police. Looking back, that would have been a much better solution. What do you think you would have done?

just some thoughts i had while reading this article:
weird...the city bordering my hometown doesnt have sidewalks so all the retired folk walk their dogs on the street. (there is no intended link between these people's age and dave's).
weird...i was almost ran over like 20 mins ago by a black chick in her 20s speeding by in a shiney new blue jeep cherokee. apparently she thought it would be appropriate to floor it through the intersection while there were 30 million students trying to cross the street. at first i thought it was a friend of mine who has the same truck, but when she didnt stop i kinda came to the conclusion it wasnt her.
males dont have an ego problem
as oddly enough as this may sound, i work for the police dept. here is what i would do if i were you. get the non-emergency number for the police station and next time you see it call that number and give the your location, licence plate numbers for the speeding cars, and a description of the vehicle if possible. if you think your (or anyone else's, especially children's) life was put in danger DEFINITELY tell them that. also let them know that this has been a reoccuring problem... |

| We were in Madsion WI, and driving home and we have several drinks in us and this kid was mugging us (staring) next thing i know the shot us w/ a paintball gun; lucky the window was up so it didnt hurt anyone but we floored and chased them for 20 min. So the guy ego problem he floors in front of them and slamed on the brakes and they hit us. We got out and they floored it in reverse and we chased them on foot and they got away. The cops came and caught them 30 min. later. I woke up the next morning noticing how f*ckin stupid we were for chasing them. |

shizzle...i feel like an ass now....me and some friends decided it would be a great idea to shoot at cars on the highway at night w/ paintball guns....this was after a few quality beverages...So we ended up nailin one guys jeep thinkin that since there goin 70 mph there's gonna be no way they can stop and find us...well this guy nails his brakes and we freak and run up into the woods. the police came and we (me and 4 other guys) managed to hide in area about 3/4 the size of a football field, not get caught by the cops (who had a searchlight beamin through the woods that landed on everyone one of us, everytime it swept over i just knew we were caught), make a break for it, sneak past the cops and run the mile or so back to my friends house all the while sneakin through all of his neighboors backyards etc.
lookin back on it its pretty damn funny...we could hear the guy talkin to the cops and he was like...is this shizzle gonna come out? does it wash off? and to think that we actually got away with it... at the moment however...it was damn scary: your underage and drunk, out past curfew, w/ a loaded paintball gun, and hiding in the woods...how would you feel at that moment when the cops come rollin up?
so i guess the moral of the story is....umm...dont get drunk with paintball guns layin around, and dont listen to any of your friends stupid ideas |

Dave, Long story short, your getting old..... and wiser. The younger you and the rest of the young population would have flipped(why do you guys say flicked) him off and then fought. Bottom line is you did the right thing and your family is still safe

I think Scott has the best advice here:
| Quote: | | get the non-emergency number for the police station and next time you see it call that number and give the your location, licence plate numbers for the speeding cars, and a description of the vehicle if possible. if you think your (or anyone else's, especially children's) life was put in danger DEFINITELY tell them that. also let them know that this has been a reoccuring problem... |

If it gets to the stage where you get into a fight, knock him and and shizzle in his mouth. ANd let your dog use him as a tree. _________________ Llamas are better then Alpacas

I believe that when Dave said he felt like he was in high school again, it had negative connotations... so I'm inclined to think that he's not going to take the above advice.
Dave, smash his mailbox instead! |
