when i learned my bs 180's i just carved out into the flats... surface spun 90 with the handle in the small of my back... and looked directly opposite of the boat and just rode until i got the weight dialed in on my board..keep your head and shoulders up.. then i turned the rest so i was riding wrapped... then i rode switch with both hands on the handle(still wrapped) .. i just pretty much learned them surface style.. started popping them and had them on lock by the end of the day
