[Making Boards] Bonding (to PBT, DuraSurf...)

Hey, somebody knows whitch kind of glue is used to bond some materials on a wood composite board, like PBT sheets, P-tex, DuraSurf ???

And the glue to make the wood composit??

I am from Brazil, may be i wont be able to find exacly the same material, but if you tell me names and lables, i can find some similar near here.

It would be awsome to have a good board like omen's and integrity, but it's so f***ing expensive to import them, so i decided to make my own board, but i'm trying to do a perfect one!

dudufigueiredo, We all use epoxy resins.

Omen will be in Australia very soon... like in the next two months!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the right glue is so key!!!!! as is the right amount of pressure when gluing.

As far as dings and bumps are concerned, I swear by Gorilla Glue. http://www.gorillaglue.com/home.htm

Surfers have their ding repair kits....wakeskaters have Gorilla Glue.

Yeah Gorilla Glue is awesome...I fixed a massive ding (from running into a steel dock on whip) on my Catalyst...you'd have to take a good hard close look at it to see that it was even damaged.

I also use it to make my skates when I glue the plys together.

Otherwise if you wanted to make a woodskate last longer you could coat it several times (5-7) with marine varnish. I only put 3 coats on my first skate and it has yet to delam...and thats after 3 years of sliding tipped over canoes and running into docks.

SleuCrew, thanks for your reply! well, if you are the guy behind Omen skates, firstly congrats! it is the most impressive board i found researching on the internet... but why dont you sell on Brazil too!? heh the wakeskate is growing fast here... Well, if its not a secret, do you have more info about revolt and effigy's production?? construction?? technics??

jonnyUTAH, i agree with you totaly, thats why i'm asking here, to know about the best materials on the market... Thanks for the Gorila Glue tip, it is just a high quality Polyurethane adhesive, we don't have it here in brazil, but i'll look for something similar near here!

mikeskatesonwater, they are 8 month old now, the boars are almost the same, just the grip tapes are going bad! the green one lost a lot of grain, and the black tae in the flat board is full of bubbles...

These are all Continious Rocker, now i'm working on a 3 and 5 stage models,
i just want to see the difference.

Look into some 3M marine adhesives on google.

Maybe Wurth adhesive's. Their from germany, not sure if they carry marine grade stuff, good chance tho.

Those boards look sweet, good job on all 3
We built a few flat decks and now working on a concave,
For the concave part on your boards are you using 1/8" ply and 3 layers of it for the concave and the kick tails, also did you make those fins your selfs? if so did you mold them or machine them, i'm going to try to make a fin mold in class this year. We are also going to try and cnc a top sheet with the concave or jsut cnc the concaves instead of doing it in layers has anyone heard or tried doing this?

logan, i remember the concave decks weight something between 3kg and 3,5kg. Its a good weight.

Jesse, two of them are with Variable-Rails, rounded on the middle and sharp at the tails. The board with the green griptape has a full rounded rail. It's a begginers board, not much pop, rides realy deep, 100% over control....

paulters, yes, i've used 3 layers of a 4mm ply, on the concave and kicktails. We made those fins with cast aluminum, and a lot of sand paper on it! haha.. I wanna see a pic after the cnc man! Once you get the layers of wood put on for the board for the concave, are you sanding them to the shape you want and then finishing them with resin or are you using resin to mount the wood concaves and then finishing it all by sanding it togther.
I'll keep you posted on the cnc becuase it seams like it would work perfect for making top sheet with concave. I'm currenlt in my last year on engineering and taking a CAD/CNC course so i should have access to all of it!!!

As you said it first. Firstly glue and sand the concave to the shape, and than finish it with resin... Nice, that might be sick, i'm in the third year on Industrial Design, we use a lot of Rhinoceros 3d, which software are you using there?

I'm very good with Autocad but it is not very good for solid modeling, so i'm using solid works now, it's very good and easy to use for 3D modeling so makes it fasat and easy to use. If you got any other pics of your boards do you mind sending them to me, i'm interested in learning more cause i want to have a good idead about those concaves before i tackle the concave board, i'll try and post some pics of my flat deck!!
