That old fart from stunt junkies!
Taking a leap of faith is in Perry Barndt's character. A former top Hollywood stunt man, senior producer and risk management specialist for the hit NBC series Fear Factor, and now executive producer and co-host for the Discovery Channel series Stunt Junkies, Barndt has brokered his knack for calculating risks from behind the camera to quickly becoming one of the industry's rising new breed of producer.
Crashing cars, racing motorcycles, being set ablaze, falling from high-rise buildings, taking a bullet ... Barndt has done it all and more. Professionally, Perry has a special talent for pushing it to the extreme. Among Hollywood's movers and shakers, Barndt's success has come through hard work, observation and literally, trial by fire. He was not born into the business, but worked and bruised his way up through the ranks, thanks to an unexpected chance meeting.
It was while Barndt was making a name for himself as a specialist in building high-performance cars that he was introduced to Jim Burk, who for years doubled as John Wayne's stunt man. Perry's adventurous nature immediately piqued his curiosity in the stunt craft and a longtime friendship ensued between the two. Burk shared his invaluable experience with Perry, teaching him trick horsemanship, and along the way, the elder mentor became Perry's surrogate father. Later, Burk introduced Barndt to legendary stunt professional Terry Leonard (Raiders of the Lost Ark). Soon, both Burk and Leonard not only showed Perry the ropes of stunt work, but how to dangle perilously from its end.
Over the ensuing years, Barndt amassed an impressive array of credits, including work for such action/adventure films as Predator 2, Terminator 2, Tombstone, Air Force One and Zorro, among others. When the creators of Fear Factor looked around for someone to create chilling stunts for the reality series, they immediately pegged Barndt for the job. The weekly high-wire act of balancing safety concerns and providing over 14 million viewers with gasping thrills had Barndt continually developing newer methods to scare audiences. Some of his well-planned stunts took upward of two months to execute. In the end, his record for safety, combined with Fear Factor's through-the-roof ratings, attest to Barndt's professionalism, attention to detail and skillful insight as the show's senior producer.
Currently, Perry is the executive producer and co-host of Discovery Channel's new series, Stunt Junkies. Perry oversees every aspect of the production, taking all his knowledge, expertise and passion to the realm of action sports. This weekly series goes in-depth into the world of extreme athletes, where their goal is to always push the limits of science and physics. Barndt brings his stunt, producing and, most importantly, his safety talents to the athletes and daily production.
In Hollywood, where risk is the common denominator, Barndt assessed the dangers. For years, Perry has built a reputation in front of the camera as a professional who refuses to take risks, instead relying on preparation and instinct. Now, as an industry insider and producer, Perry Barndt is ready to take thrills to an entirely new level.
