|
|
Sooo with exams all done and my summer job yet to start, I've had a lot of time on my hands and decided to prep my bi-level for the season. Since these things are notorious for falling apart, I decided to take things into my own hands so I don't break it as quickly.
So far I've made some risers (or bushings?) so that the metal trucks don't come in contact with the wood. I just cut out some somewhat thin, flexible (but really durable) plastic-like stuff I found in the shop and cut screw holes in em, two risers for each truck.
I also sealed the shat out of it using some spray-on polyurethane which I hope will be good enough. I recently heard marine spar varnish is the stuff to use, but hopefully this works.
I'll let you guys know how long this biatch lasts from everyday summer riding.
I'm interested to see what other people have done to their bilevels in an attempt to make them last a lot longer too. Post stuff that you've done to your decks that has/hasnt worked! (not just bilevels either, any wood deck) _________________ www.sattelyte.com

I used varnish on my bi-lev. I applied liberal amounts of spar varnish to the insides of the screwholes and let it dry overnight. Then the next day I painted more varnish in the holes and onto the screws and screwed the whole thing together while it was wet. I just had to wipe a little bit of varnish off the top and bottom, but the mess was pretty minimal.
Also, on my Tech 42, when the edges got banged up, I would apply a coat or two of thinned varnish to help keep water out; it's still going strong. |

I need to start sealing the screw holes on mine. Keep water from easing its way on in. Good Post Topic! Keep the tips coming.
I broke a bottom deck the other day, that was a first for me. Nothing I can do about that. |

yeah its working good. the only problem is that the one side was cracked worse than the other so that side is more flexible. its also heavier, but ive gotten used to it... _________________ ripped riders yah? |
