Of course, the term vintage can be used loosely.

At any rate, I just bought some old wake mags from a bro and I ran into some shots I've never seen in a WBM or anything, and I thought maybe others would be just as psyched. Two are of Thomas on one of his air brushed (courtesy of one chris mack), chopped down wake tech wakeboards, one is of drew mcguckin on another chopped wakeboard, and then we have a shot of one derry maloy on what I presume to be a fresh water wakeskate, complete with performance enhancing traction pads.

I guess it should be mentioned that the first three shots are from this mag called "level 10" and then the derry maloy shot is from "launch."

Derry is a very nice guy. I'd still like to do some sort of interview or something with him on the site, because with his position as a DU rep (and bro of jason's), he has some interesting insight when it comes to that "early" wakeskating...like he had an interesting story about val surf and some traction pads he tried to give them. Just barriers to break through, I guess.

but it was cool to get that level 10...it's so cool to get that stuff, even years later...it's still fresh if you've never seen it, and I was pleasantly surprised with all of the shots I've posted. The thomas ones make that board look really nice.

But anyway, call derry!

yeah, I was never all that into L10. I thought it was a sucky magazine and it wasn't all that accessible either. But now that I'm OCD when it comes to keeping this stuff, the price was right and I had to have them. I actually have the first two issues, like when it was called performance wakeboard report...so that's cool.

raven, you're totally right! Man, you crack me up. And you're welcome!

Yeah L10 was pretty weak, but hey it was a "wake" magazine. Their boat reviews were the best Laughing

yeah russian, i hear you. I would be that very same way nowadays since I have more money and could afford to subcribe to multiple publications. But at the time, i did not work so the only wake magazine I ever subscribed to was WBM. I'm still kicking myself for not subscribing to launch because all in all, that was a pretty cool magazine, especially in retrospect. (minus the wbm bashing because I can't stand that sort of thing in any publication). And 15 dollars seems like such a small deal...but again, when you don't work, where do you get the money, outside of selling your own hand rolled cubans? (I got my practice first by rolling crepes. but it's important to point out that what I just said was a lie.)

I'm still trying to collect all of the missing issues, and I've filled in most of the gaps...but launch did some really cool stuff...I feel like in certain respects, they tried to cover the west coast a bit more. I know erich had quite a bit more coverage in that mag than any other, and at the time it was super fresh (and is still a riot to look back on, like doing a 180 into a switch 50-50 on a concrete... dock-end jobby). And I don't know if it was ever published, but I still want that mutiny ad with kris markovitch giving me (the viewer) the finger. I saved that ad archive when they had it on the old site...but sweet mother of pearl, can you ever subsitute for the real thing? My answer is no.

Isn't level 10 the one Grubb said sucked in his day in the life that aired on bluetorch tv and was also an extra with snap?

haha, yeah, that's the one. I'm pretty sure watson said the same thing, though not directly, in one of his alliance articles from a few years back. Some how that mag was calling out pros for being poor ambassadors or something and I think pointless (or a few of them) were included in that list some how. It's been awhile, I don't recall the exact details, but that's the gist of it.

Those Thomas pics are great. Isn't he riding that same cut down board in Decline of the Water Ski Monopoly?
