Definitely, but it takes mad self-discipline to not party all the time, and there is nothing wrong with state schools! What are you going to major in? I majored in geography, now I am a DBA/Systems Analyst in charge of my city's Geographic Info System. If your not ready, don't waste your time or money and just work and party for a while, worked for me. Surprised

dirtyohioriver22, In my opinion you definately want to put some effort into it.

I hated high school and was ready to get out of there. Luckily I put enough effort to get into my school of choice and it was the best thing I could have done. It changed my life outlook (for the better).

Get used to working if you want to succeed, never just say 'fvck it', you won't get anywhere. Do everything in your life with passion and effort and you'll be happier for it. After all, what's the point of living if you're not where you want to be?

Bottom Line:
If you're definately into college and want to go to a particular one, put some effort into it, go to the school you want to go to (And do everything else you want to in life). You don't want to live the rest your life thinking 'what if?'.

Hell yes it is worth it!!! Bust your ass off and get into the best school you can. I made sure that I got good enough grades to get into the best University I could, then I took a one year deferal, moved to Whistler and partied, snowboarded, drank, smoked pot everyday....life was good.

So when I got to University a year later, I was ready to Study and didn't waste my tuition money. With my University grades, I managed to get into a good Masters program.

Moral of the Story - Work hard; play hard..... Also>> good universities have hotter chicks.

College is a friggin' blast. There's always stress with any good program, but when it's all said and done, graduating is great. Private Universities in America = $$$$.

Go to School in Canada. The education is just as good (sometimes better), and the tuition is a fraction of the cost.

Nothing wrong with state schools, but go to a college that is good at what you want to do. Look into what kind of research and further opportunities are available in your field of study and go from there. Also look at what kind of stuff you can be doing in the area of your school when you aren't hitting the books. There is more to school than just studying.

One thing also, if you bust your ass in high school, it can lead to some good scholarships which are completely worth it in the long run. It looks like I'm going to be able to graduate debt free in a couple of years which will be a huge head start and I'm forever grateful of the opportunities given to me b/c of the work I put in the past and with the help of my parents.

I remember being back in high school and sorta being the same way to an extent. But then I forced myself to study and then found my way into a damn good university and I'm thankful for every minute I spent working my ass off in high school. I'm sure everyone who has been through school will say the same. What you do in high school can affect whether or not you get that job that you've always wanted. I know that it's hard to think that far into the future but the things that you do NOW could potentially impact the rest of your life. I'd urge all you guys in high school to do the very best you can to get the best education so that when you look back you'll have no regrets.

i'm gonna be the bubble buster and destroy all your hopes. i f*cking hate, and i really mean hate, college. its just not for everyone. if you are excited at all about it, then you should def. go for it and check everything out. it can be the most awesome time of your life. i have some friends that are just absolutely as happy as they could ever be.

however, for some it just doesnt work out. i never ever wanted to go to college and my parents made me. hated it. made me go a full year, still hated it. said i could stop after trying one year. hated it after a full year, failed all of my classes and they still made me go back. this is probably the only thing that i have ever fought with my parents about. i love them to death and this is hands down, one of the fcuking dumbest things they have ever done.

i have no clue what i want to do, im not social, and i hate living in the city. i've basically been depressed for the past two years and i'm pretty positive that i wont be back next year.

on the flip side of the coin, i do understand the value of an education in today's world. i would just rather take some time off, get to know myself and the world in the process of travling, and if something sparks my interest, then i might go back. hopefully with some focus and desire.

until then, college can eat my ass. Twisted Evil

dirtyohioriver22, LOL, what kinda question is that? now adays you need AT LEAST a 4 year degree to do ANYTHING, unless u want to be a garbage man...then u only need 2 years.. Neutral i made the mistake of beating off freshman and sophmore year in highschool, then i realized, shizzle, i gotta go to college soon, and my grades were poor and my SAT was even poorer.. But i ended up wokring hard and bringi my GPA up and making it into my first choice FAU. So, Work hard bro when u get in college u will have the time of your life, away from the parents, drink whenever u want, its a constant party if u make it that. But dont forget to work hard in college 2 DONT SKIP CLASS! Good luck man youll figure life out.

Yeah, don't skip class, that's huge...

Everyone talks about how there is a big jump from high school to freshman year of college. Well, that's not necessarily the case. It's supposed to be especially difficult for engineering majors, well at my university, they really baby you freshmen year, so the difficulty really comes sophomore year. And it's not that it's impossible work, it's just the workload and having to study on your own (yes you have to study to do well, I went my whole life not studying and I was a 3.9 student in HS... it just doesn't work like that at the collegiate level). It takes some discipline, but after you get everything figured out, it's worth it.

I have a question for scott a, I thought that you worked at a Boat Dealership or Pro shop or something ? If so, how has the education helped you, if at all....... And do you think there are somethings they just dont teach in school ? LIke LIfe skills, You and I both know that selling boards is just that SELLING boards. I personally can tell a difference in my sales when I work and when I have my employees only on. Do you think there's any truth to that ?

Yeah but riding on the back of the truck is so cool.

I do not agree with Alexxx's statement. There are many good 2 year degree programs out there that are respectable and pay well. I have a 2 year degree, and am very happy. College was not for me. I could have gone to numerous 4 year schools, but it didn't appeal to me. I took some time off after high school, then I went to the local Comm College and got an Associates Degree. I would do it over in a heartbeat too.
