che blanc, I sincerely hope you did not think that my posting was directed towards only you. I had noticed a gathering of postings directed towards Maria - not just yours. I have found this posting to be a very interesting debate or more bluntly...

| -=AlexXx=-, they are offended because the word we use to describe them is commonly used in a derogatory manner. i frequently use the word gay to describe negative things. i also feel that your hatred for gays might stem from a slight confusion in your own sexuality and a fear that you might become what you claim to despise so much. |

Sorry if I'm not being as precise in my argumentation as I wish to be, english is after all just my second language. I never meant to say that you're a bad role model in all the aspects of it, just concerning this particular matter. After all, we are discussing word usage here, and nothing else. Please don't read too much into it. I was just trying to draw your attention to the fact(?) that a lot of kids in here really listen to what you say, more than you could probably imagine. Thanks for pointing out that this was never a discussion about religion. But I guess for some, everything is about religion...
Right now this discussion about word usage seems a bit unnecassary compared to what someone else wrote after my last post. My main concern is about if and how your word usage reflects your real opinions on certain matters. I.E: you use the term gay as a negative adjective because you see gay people as something negative. And as we just saw, that really is the case for some people here (I'm still kind of hoping that post by Alex was just a joke...) Please help me here, because I think there's a huge difference between the way you and this Alex use the word "gay". So how will I be able to know what's what?
To be a bit more philosophical I think the American and the, let's say, European, version of freedom of speech is profoundly different. But that's a completely different discussion...

There is no right or wrong answer to this. no one can say who is right because it is a question or morals. some people see using the word "gay" to describe something they dislike as bad, to be wrong. others do not think twice about it because they are not using it out of hate of homosexuals.
bottom line, nick can use "gay" how he see's fit because there is no law against it. that gives him and everyone else, the right to do so. so maria whether or not u like that he does it, u have to accept it because it is a choice he has the right to make. just like u have the choice whether or not u read it, and the choice to disregard what he says, or take it to heart and try to change it.
everyone has their own views. theres no way that everyone will like everyone else's. maria can express that she does not like the term but shouldn't ask for it to be taken back, and nick can choose to not use it any more, or if he finds that inconvienient, he can agree to disagree. which it seems has been done.
