HatzicScape112, That shot was mostly in there because the San Fransisco baseball stadium was 80% of the back drop. If it was just trees in the background, I'm not sure it would have been in there.

There are NO limits to how far wakeskating tricks can go, so to say its all been done is suggesting that wakeskating tricks have maxed out. Not even close.
NaRC-P rider, Agreed.

In my opinion wakeskating is a mean of self expression. There is no rule.
However, if someone is making a living out of skating on water, he should thrive for originality. At the job you realy wouldnt want to see every one doing the same things you have done years ago....right
and yes.... on a pro level style is everything ........got no pop = got no style _________________ old school |

I second everything NR just wrote...
I think we should be able to expect more from the pro's than we do from everyone else in this sport, activity, whatever. We actually pay them to do what they do, from buying stuff from the companies that sponsor them. |

che blanc, i'm not sayding that the tricks of wakeskating have maxed out, thats rediculous haha. what i am saying is if say one day i get to the level that you are at today, say i throw down a 3 flip, if we go with what reed is saying, then my 3 flip should not even be in a mag or a video, becasue you, and others have already thrown them down on video. so i wouldnt get any professional coverage which would make it really ahrd unless i thought of something totally original, for me that would be easy b/c i live in british columbia and i am sure there are tons oof places that no one else has seen let alone gapped... _________________

HatzicScape112, NO your not getting his point. His deal is Gaps certain spots......ect.. If you went and 3 fliped metro after nick then yes Aaron believes yuo shouldn't get the coverage. Which I actually agree with if Nicks initial 3 flip was legit. It actually makes sense, and that is how snowboarding and Skateboarding are ran..... But they are also ran so that style is key and Legitimacy is a must. No sketchy tricks make it into snow/skate. I think thats where our sport needs to be. _________________

To me this sounds like a problem that belongs to the media. I think it's a bit silly to be worrying about all this. I agree with most of what Aaron says about progression and I think he rips harder than about everyone out there. Sometimes you need to take a step back and look at with a fresh eye. Based on what he's saying, all the mags and video editors need to creat some kind of trick database so that when they get a shot of X trick at Y location they can search to make sure it hasn't been done. When you think about it, does that not sound crazy? The riders don't need to be worrying about this stuff. If everyone develops their own style, we'll all be ok...

pirate, I dont even have my magazine yet (and I'm nearly inconsolable). Initially, I posted a bunch of crap at 3.45 am (yes, it's nice to be able to stay up late these days), but I deleted it because I didn't want to "go beyond my realm of knowledge."
Quickly though, I think it's funny how the first article he wrote tried to emphasize style and now, in this forum, discussing/dissing/debating article number four (I think), somehow it seems to come right back to that first seven page message board freak out--STYLE! but that's how I see it.
secondly, I don't think danny's MW KF was made in time for the sfu. he didn't even have an actual part in retrospect, but he did drop the last hammer. I was just stunned when I saw him try it in sfumato..I couldn't believe anyone was doing that. But he did get it done and nothing should be ever taken away from that, regardless of where his super 8 (I think) metrowest kickflip footage ended up. He finished what he started, straight up. anyway, whatever, I'm just going to say that I wish him the best because I felt sad to see him still wearing one of those collar/neck brace things in his boardstock article (I think that's where I saw it). So get well soon, danny.
but gore is pretty bad ass too. I'm just saying...
finally, there are all sorts of "unspoken rules" in all boardsports--skating, snowboarding, etc. It's not just about progression (though that is a natural byproduct of lots of talent and the ante being upped continouously, either by yourself or through the talent around you), but sometimes it ends up being about (kind of how NR said it) being different and trying set yourself apart. that's where STYLE really helps when the talent pool is deep. Or, even when the pool isn't that deep--grubb has said before that style is what will set you apart and make you unique. anyway, it's just funny that people act like aaron is crazy, when you can look at any boardsport and see very similar (and accepted) practices. Whatever, though.
oh wait, the tejas gap. I'll comment on this since this didn't originate in the article. How many tries did it take him to actually get one make? Progression isn't just about the huck and doing it "for the sake of." It's going to come from knowing your abilities and riding smart. There will be risks, but at that point, the rider trusts/knows his ablities enough to try whatever it is they're after. If aaron landed one foot on, one foot off on that gap (as an example), trying something to impress people with more than a "x number of feet ollie", he'd probably be torn in half...and that'd be such a mess. Originally (the first time around) ben greenwood didn't want to gap it on a wakeboard, and here you have thomas and aaron, knowing what they're capable of and putting that energy to good use. Give the gap time...
and if this is all way off, then I'm an jerk. PEACE! _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

electricsnow, I loveyou.........................
O.k I think alot of you are jumping on the "I hate reed" bandwagon. DONT!!!!! Thats not what i'm saying. In fact I actually agree with him i just think he argument is week. You guys do know this is how Skateboarding is ran. And while progression is cool (tech wise) it isn't everything. I'de much rather see a slow grabed clean w2w bs 180 then a sketchy w2w v-flip or 3flip for that matter.
Legitimacy is a must. and clean tricks = Legitimacy. Fins or not, CLEAN POPPED TRICKS !!!!
electricsnow, since i respect you and your opinion do you agree with me, or at least see what im saying ? _________________

| PIRATE, your telling me if i posted two links, one that said W2W V-flip and one that said BS 180(smooth) ; you'd click the bs 180 first? i find that a little hard to believe but to each his own. i just don't understand why there has to be unspoken rules for who can get coverage for what and where. i do believe if someone does something like k-flip the metro west gap, the originator of it (Hampson) should be mentioned just to show respect to the innovator of it but not say no one else can do this or get media attention for this. its still an amazing feat that should be respected not critisized. |

canalskater, Again, it's not like once it's done, you are gonna get tarred and feathered for doing it again, Reed's suggesting we don't play it out, which, for a gap in video parts and mags, metro westy has kind of become.
But either way you look at it, you don't wanna get stuck with snakes on a plane, that would just be bad. _________________ √ |

haha che, and pirate i do understand what reed was saying, i just dont agree with not giving anyone else coverage for it just because they weren't the first to complete the trick legit. i agree that our sport must be shown with only legit tricks in the mags. but why not play it out, its like saying, ok a pro skater ollies the leap of faith, and then another one does it too right after the first... both got pics but becasue the first guy landed it the second shouldnt get credit for it in a vid? thats bull in my opinion, they both landed the trick legit so giv'em the fame and fortune that comes at the end.
but again i agree our sport shoudl only portray legit tricks in our vids and mags. _________________

HatzicScape112, I understand what you're saying. If it's like a jam sesh in a video, they aren't gonna cut George's back lip down the pool gap rail from the vid just because Reed already pounded one in. Good point.
But I think everyone can feel who and where this is directed, but if you still disagree, spell it out, say what you don't like about it, not just "That's teh gay." _________________ √ |
