I think you're allowed to ride in them....you just have to have an approved one for every person including you on the boat. I just always carry two my a-10 (which I'm actually not very satisfied with) and an old crappy CGA one.

my bro got pulled over for not riding with a vest, the cop was gonna give a tic, the driver asked to see the code requiring a life vest while riding,

the cop couldnt, got really pissed and left.

i guess in the IL code book, there is not one code mandating a vest.

now i would recommend always wearing a vest while riding, but, i hate over aggressive cops who think they know it all,

so kids, take out the code and read it, it might just save you some money and headaches one day.

or you could just wear a vest and spend your money on hustler...

btw i wear a LF team vest. best damn vest.
i tried the ripcurl and it didnt work for me as well as the LF. That LF just fit me sooo much better.

I ride a Ripcurl... I really really like it... to me the LF team looks very similar to my vest, so i would probably like that to...

Dered,
i liked the looks of the ripcurl much more, i bought both, but the LF was such a better fit,

i tried the rc on 5x's just to make sure, they are both very similiar, i think the arm holes were larger on the LF,

but they are both killa vests for sure.

codes for riding with a vest are fuzzy at best. if i remember correctly, the USCG says that you must wear an approved vest except if youre participating in a pro event or are training for one. now, anyone could theoretically be "training" for a pro event at any time, right? the thing is that nowhere does it say that "training" only takes place a few days before the professional event, and that is what apparently is inferred according to the coast guard guy i asked about it. but in the end it doesnt say outright that you must wear a vest, so i guess there is room for interpretation either way.

You can ride non-CGA jackets but they don't count towards the # of life-jackets onboard your boat. so you can really on get ticked if you don't have enough jackets onboard.

when i got my ticket for driving a ski without a vest the cop waited till we went back out cause we were switching rider/driver and then he put his jet ski in just to give me the ticket then he took his ski out.. and probably then went back behind his desk or something he probably had to get someone to open the gate to drop his ski in too because there's only two ramps onto the lake and they're both private

I have a non-cga, but i don't think i've ever even seen a cop on our river...sometimes we only have a driver and a rider..no spotter and we don't have mirrors or anything. Apparently that is not legal either, but we still do it in the early mornings/before sundown when no one else is out and there's no one to spot.
