hey guys i've been doing boardsports for about 8 years now. i'm into skimboarding, wake skimboarding, and skateboarding. i just found out about wakeskating about a year ago. i'm looking into getting a board for this summer, but i have a few questions.

1. the fins;; how much do they help? can you take them off? i know on wake skimboarding i don't use a fin and i can ride just fine.
2.board;; i was looking at this: http://www.wakeworld.com/skates/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3098 how is that for a beginners board? and do the fins come off on it?
3.griptape;; which is better eva foam or regular griptape? or is it just personal preference?

thanks a lot :]

skimboarder, alright, here we go....

fins not necessary at all, some people love em, some people hate em, if you like finless, then you can ride finless no prob.

most people prefer griptape, but it's not a big deal if you board comes gripped or with foam, b/c you can always put griptape on it by purchasing some grip tape at your local skate shop putting it on yourself (not expensive at all)

the catalyst is supposedly a good board, I've never ridden it, but on the negative I've heard it feels like a small wakeboard. People seem to prefer more of a skateboard style feel that you will get from boards made by other companies besides hyperlite.

Good companies to check out...
http://www.integrity-wake.com
http://www.oakwakeskates.com
http://www.omenskates.com
http://www.sattelyte.com
http://www.distortionboarding.com
Cassette Wakeskates (website is currently down)
http://www.kampuswakesk8.com

You can buy Sattelyte's from http://www.wakeskateworld.com, and Oaks from http://www.boardstop.com or http://www.okcboardshop.com, Integrity wakeskates are available now from their website, Omens will be available for sale within the next week or two. Distortion's boards will be for sale soon. Not sure when Cassette's boards will be available. Kampus boards should be for sale with in the next month or so from their website.

a lot of people like the liquid force impulse which you can find damn near anywhere, too.

www.buywake.com has them...

skimboarder, almost every board has the choice for fins, so its totally up to you. But if you want a board with no fins holes at all, then the new omen skates might be a good choice, cause as far as I know they dont have any holes, I could be wrong tho...

Dered, also the sattelyte's give the option because they send you a drill bit to drill your own holes if you want fins...

skimboarder, it does have fins but you can take them off, well they don't even come mounted so it's not a big deal, just don't use them...
