my cousin tyler told me about wakeskating back in 1999, but i didnt really understand. but then in 2002 i think i got free4all and i was blown away by tim kovacich and brian grubb's parts and i wanted to ride so bad. and then in 2003 tyler came camping with me and brought his skate and i tried it and i was hooked.

i started out wakeboarding, our boat is crap so it got old real fast, so I switched to wakeskating because it seemed like a better fit. I've only strapped like once or twice since.

Three years ago I saw an ad in Wakeboarder Mag with Byerly doing an ollie over a rock in a lake probably somewhere near where Pirate lives. I realized that riverblading was forever ghey.

Shane Bonifay's 2006 gear just proves it.

I used to have a Skurfer and I'd ride without the straps sometimes. When I got a real wakeboard I'd still take the bindings off and ride barefoot a little bit. I used to put on sandals to get better traction. My friend and I actuall learned shoveits on a wakebord this way. Finnaly got some FWT when they came out.

Then about 5 years ago I rode the cassette 41" wakeskate which was the first real wakeskate I rode. I'd had a hyperlite before that but it was just a wakeboard with foam on top. I knew wakeskating was for real when I rode that cassette.

probly the fact that i dont have a wakeboarding boat. i shalom ski and our boat is designed to make no wake. its inexpensive. i mean how much does a flat deck cost. a pair of old skater shoes and a winch and ur set. the major thing that helped me was this site. seein all the ams progress and become pro is swet. some of nicks old footage there is also a big canadian wakeskate movement i dont know why but meh. i have never been part of a sport the is still evolving to this degree and that in itself is crazy.

strapped a little here and there, never took it too seriously. wasn't quite snowboarding. no big boat. seen the liquid force/cassette boombox 45" at the shop, thought i'd try it out. that board was big as hell, did some w2w indys back then. 2 seasons ago seen how people were doin shuv variations, and eventually k-flips. all made sense then. been hooked since. <3
