For flats skating, it doesn't matter. For lip tricks and W2W tricks, it is better right in front of the wash where the wake has a nice lip. You may need to shorten it up for W2W stuff when you are beginning or if your wake is really wide. Experiment with it, it is all preference.

123456789, You post WAY too much. try using the search feature to find out if a topic has already been made before you make new ones. I understand that you are new to all of this and have a lot of questions but really.. people have asked these before. Just trying to help out...

I ride at 65 feet. At that point the lip is nice and smooth for lip tricks, and the wake is thin enough for easy w2w. It varies with different boats though. I recommend Cary K.'s advice when it comes to lip tricks.

yeah, Laughing get the 100 foot rope with the 25 one foot sections at the end!
