If anybody on this board is ever feeling down just sing these lyrics.
Another day has gone
I'm still all alone
How could this be
You're not here with me
You never said goodbye
Someone tell me why
Did you have to go
And leave my world so cold
Everyday I sit and ask myself
How did love slip away
Something whispers in my ear and says
That you are not alone
For I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay
But you are not alone
For I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
But you are not alone
All alone,
'Why, oh
Just the other night
I thought I heard you cry
Asking me to come
And hold you in my arms
I can hear your prayers
Your burdens I will bear
But first I need your hand
Then forever can begin
Everyday I sit and ask myself
How did love slip away
Something whispers in my ear and says
That you are not alone
For I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay
For you are not alone
For I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
For you are not alone
Whisper three words and I'll come runnin'
And girl you know that I'll be there
I'll be there
You are not alone
For I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay
For you are not alone
For I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
For you are not alone
For I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay
For you are not alone
For I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
For you are not alone. |

PIRATE, electricsnow, Retard Reed,
What a threesome this would be!
Esnow, brought up a good point back on page whatever it was about Dogtwon and Z Boys.
Actually, the kids wanted to ride out outside of everything else. Then the style component came into play. Once the big corporations started to sponsor the skaters, thats when the core was split up. They started to focus more on winning a comp than actually progressing the sport.
This is the reason the surf industry has implemented the expression sessions outside of the normal comps.
Esnow, if you remember the end of the movie, when all the riders got back together and rode in that huge pool with the kid who had cancer, the style part came back.
So, what does this mean. It means that, style is important but most importantly keeping the riders together is paramount. Do not let the corporations or comps divide riders any further. When the progression continues, so does the style.
Integrate not segregate.
I started a thread a few weeks back, "how many skaters are there". Well there are not many. Keep it real and ride together.
This guy has it right. Back on page 2.
my thoughts are it isn't exactly how you ride ,but your attitude towards riding
Retard, the ARR ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrr comment was funny.
Pirate, praise for putting all your info out there, what are you thinking!
Esnow, brilliant once again.
Kirby, said it all in one line. More than any of you together. _________________ Dick Dale for President! www.dickdale.com

The skateboarding comparison Aaron made in his article is an important point. We are at the infancy stages of a great sport and have the responsibility of shaping it and creating standards of style so the culture can grow in a way we can be proud of in the future. This is hard when alot of the base of wakeskating comes from wakeboarding.
A VERY different culture to skateboarding. Skaters gather togther in groups and have alot of feedback and peer shaping that encourages the cultivation of a style as well as the execution of tricks. We all know this. It's a natural heirarchy of progression; you have a lame style, you know it and usually get told or heckled until you try change the way you do something. Wakeboarding culture doesnt have this cultivation in a big way.
Reason? It takes place on an expensive boat where the rider is being dragged 70ft away and feedback and progression can be slower and harder to make. It's an elitist sport limited mainly to priviledged (and by the looks of some of the posts spoiled) kids.
Wakeskating is not like this, its finally made things more accessible and whether you like it or not it IS more like skateboarding. I appreciate that its harder to make tricks so when you do make one you are stoked. But it's important to take that and try get that trick under your belt with as much style as you can. Landing on your back and riding away is not making a trick. Get a style, POP your sh/*t, and don't act like you are strapped onto that thing - you arent! Have some pride you'll sleep better!
The times of wakeskating contests being a carnival sideshow judged (tolerated for the extra $) by strappers is over and it took people to make a stand to realise this.
Its the projects and contests that get together wakeskaters into a single area that are helping evolve the sport. Otherwise we are too dissipated and yelling at 1 other person 70 ft behind a seadoo. These are important times. Together people get to give respect to other riders or heckle and hassle- either way it's necessary and positive in the long run.
Aaron, Thomas, Grubb and Jim Leatherman just left our sunny shores of NZ last week after taking part in a Red Bull project I held called ADRIFT.
These people got together as friends and did some of the most amazing sh*t ever thrown down on a wakeskate. And Reed is a FKKING ambassador for wakeskating and we are lucky to have someone willing to not only stand by their values but write them publicly and jovially endure the kind of scrutiny and idiotic harassment that is being posted in this forum. Seriously. Plus seeing tricks like (locked for 5 frames) back tails down a ledge, front blunts, back noseblunts, and bigspin front boards, all solid as f*kk. If you have the kind of attitude that disrespects a person who is capable of pushing the sport forward like this then good luck to you out there.
Anyway - I have a 3 minute teaser for Adrift and some shots by the good Josh Letchworth that I'll send to Dave B so he can post them later in the week.
Have fun... it all comes out in the wash.

PIRATE, its funy how you like to bow out of arguments with the excuse that its just the E net in an effort to save whats left of your dignity. I know you have done this before, i just dont care enough to search for topic names and other stuff, i think it was around the time when you created your elter ego pee wee. The point of a message board is to connect riders from around the world to help progress the sport you love, not talk shizzle about pros, and other riders. Reed got a two page spread in magazine for a three shuv, who cares, people get two page spreads and adds for simple wake slashes, get the chickity china the chinese chicken over it. I think in the end more than anything your probably just jelous as Reed has the job you would probbaly kiil for because he is, dare I say, "Dooing it Right", and you are, "doing it wrong". Oh yeah, and if you cant talk shizzle back to someone, you dont make fun of their tattoo, wtf is that , when you resort to things like that you just make yourself look like more of an ass. And just for fun, lets throw in one of these.....
Go kill yourself ..... _________________ oh great now i have ink all over the screen |
