DVS wakeskate team riders Thomas Horrell, Aaron Reed and Jim Leatherman just returned from New Zealand where they spent the past ten days. The primary purpose of the trip was for the guys to compete in the Red Bull “Adrift” contest, but somehow they also managed to have an all male dance party and a karaoke sing off...we may need an explanation on this one.
For the Adrift event, Red Bull built a rail that has never been constructed before and got together some of the world’s top wakeskaters to see what they could do with it. The construction of the rail was the very intricately built on top of a barge consisting of a 70-foot pool which had a huba ledge, straight rail along with a manual box off the end. The premise of the rail was that you could hit it while being towed by a boat as well as having the barge set “Adrift” at the same time.
Needless to say, there were many great photos and video footage shot of things never seen before on a wakeskate. To name a couple from Aaron Reed, there was a backside tail slide, blunt slide as well as a front boardslide bigspin. Fortunately, you will be able to witness the event that took place in Orakei Korako in an upcoming limited special issue of Alliance Wake. The issue will also come with a DVD featuring the event.
And if that wasn’t enough, Fuel TV will be running a half hour segment on Adrift as part of the “Pull” series. The show will cover the contest and include all of the antics that accompany most DVS trips, including this all male dance party and karaoke sing off mentioned previously. Still wondering about this one…
Last but not least, the DVS wake site now has a NZ trip photo gallery, and will soon have special interviews and a 3-minute video segment available in iPod format!
Grubbs not on DVS. "Some of the best wakeskaters in the world" (put in quotes to avoid arguments) were invited, not just the dvs team. |

Gads, I read the informational e-mail they sent out to promote that thing, and they said that reed made a backside tailslide. That's freaking crazy...that event is just nutty. It said it would be covered in a special edition of alliance, and it would come with a free dvd. I'm psyched... _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Have you or your friends done them? You should post some pics because it's a nutty maneuver. Personally speaking, I've never seen or heard of anyone doing one on a wakeskate, so I'm pretty "jazzed" none the less.
Are you jazzed? _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

badass. I definitely look forward to seeing them.
In the meantime, I'm just going to keep feeling jazzed...because jazzed is a funny word and I've been meaning to make fun of it for quite awhile, but it slipped my mind. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
