| A buddy of mine is in town this week, haven't really got to see him much since we graduated HS in 04. For Christmas, he decided to take me skydiving (he just got done with jump school for the army). I'm kind of freaking out a little bit right now. Anyone ever done this? I'm not going to lie, I think I'm going to get on the plane and be scared sh*tless. |

senorbueno, Listen bro, there's nothing as fun as jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. If you're scared of heights, it doesn't matter, because there is nothing in your horizontal perspective, it just feels like you're floating on a giant air bubble, there is none of that falling feeling. It's just 100% freedom and adrenaline. I think you'll be surprised when you jump out the door and hear complete silence and feel completely at peace. It's the closest you can get to God from here...
My dad took his 1028th jump a few months ago, and I'm going with him next time. I can't wait... tell us how it is when you get back... _________________ √ |

| Yeah man me and a few friends did it last year. It is one of the best experiences ever. My favorite part was right when you get to the door and look out on the horizon and then jump out of the plane. |

senorbueno, It's not a question of courage or fear, it's a matter of , " Do you wanna"? and of course you know that if you wanna bad enough you will. Where are you going to bee jumping ? Are you going to do the Accelerated Free Fall or static, or tandem ? I recommend tandem for the first time as it gives you the feeling without the responsibility(j.t. X responsibilty="damn..it's pull altitude ...guess I'd better".) Don't know how they train em today, but unless your buddy is Special Forces, HALO, or on one of the skydiving teams....military jumping is a hell of a lot different than sport parachuting. I could go on & on but my ty[ping skills suck. PM if you like with specific questions. Nick got his #s messed up ...1081 sport jumps. Anxiety=adrenaline. heh heh heh. Have fun if you go. Have fun if you don't.

PIRATE, hopefully all those stickers too. Goning to try getting one of those full size cardboard stand up thingies(lo mismo de) NASCAR drivers to send to you. Put it right by the refrigerator. Maybe even feed it once in a while. _________________ If it don't kill you..it ain't bad. If it does..it won't matter. |

| JTwakeskater56, he is special forces, but hasn't done any of his HALO jumps yet (starts HALO school next spring). We are going to be doing it in San Marcos, Texas, which is right between Austin San Antonio and I'm going to be doing it tandem with an instructor next week. Can't go solo here unless you are training to get licensed (and they still won't let you until like the 3rd or 4th jump) or are licensed. |

The time I did it I was suprised, I expected the fall to feel like how a rollercoaster feels when you first drop, you know that weird feeling in your stomach. That didnt happen. Worth all the crazy nerves on the way up, I was literally shaking like a leaf, it was so rad. _________________

| integrity640, skydiving or BASE jumping? I dunno, I kind of find it hard to believe that someone can survive a 13,000 foot fall going 120 mph... but I guess I really don't know for a fact that it hasn't been done before. |

senorbueno, SF!!!!!! Yeah I know they don't let you go solo. Accelerated Free Fall(AFF) is in seven steps you go out with instructors holding onto you. Get a few instructions while freefalling with them. Some where around the 4th or 5th step they start backing away from you, allow you to do some manuevers on your own, then latch back onto you until you pull. You can ask em about it at the drop zone. Was in Austin in the 1970s. Zilker Park, Texas stadium, and friendly people are my fondest memories. I repeat...have fun. _________________ If it don't kill you..it ain't bad. SILOAM SPRINGS - Her story is one of survival. Just two months ago, Shayna Richardson, 21, of Joplin, Missouri faced certain death when during a skydiving adventure her parachute and reserve chute failed above Siloam Springs.
Shayna Richardson says she panicked while spiraling towards the earth at 50 miles an hour. With no way to stop, Richardson says she accepted her fate was death.
Richardson took up the sport of skydiving after her 21st birthday in May. She says she wanted to jump since age 12, and only now is fulfilling her wish.
“I’ve always wanted to do it. The crazier the rides, the more danger involved, the more I always wanted to do everything,” said Richardson.
On October 9th, Shayna Richardson prepares for her 10th jump. Richardson attempts an accelerated free-fall above Siloam Springs. This is her first solo jump and first skydiving trip with a new parachute she just purchased.
As with all of Shayna's jumps, her instructor is video taping the entire descent. His parachute opens fine but out of the camera's view Shayna Richardson is in trouble.
“I heard a snap and I started spinning and I didn't know why. I didn't know what to do to fix it. I didn't know how to make it stop,” said Richardson.
Shayna’s instructor screams for her to pump the brakes. Richardson cuts her shoot away deploying her reserve.
“It's called your guaranteed open. That's what everyone refers to it as,” said Richardson.
But her reserve never fully opens.
“To have a malfunctioning reserve is one in a million. It just doesn't happen,” said Richardson.
Out of options and out of hope, Shayna Richardson spins out of control heading straight for an asphalt parking lot below.
“At the end I said. I'm going to die. I'm going to hit the ground. I'm going to die,” said Richardson. “I don't remember it. I don't remember hitting the ground. I don't remember the impact or anything that came with it.”
Shayna Richardson lands face first. Her entire body bears the brunt of the crash.
“In the hit, I egg shelled my entire face. Everything got egg shelled. I broke my pelvis in two places and I broke my leg,” said Richardson.
Richardson is air-flighted to Fayetteville, where she’ll stay for the next 16 days enduring pain and surgery.
“I went into the first surgery where they cut me from ear to ear and they cut my face down and they took out all the fractured egg shelled bones and put in steel plates,” said Richardson.
While undergoing treatment, doctors discover Richardson is not the only skydiving survivor.
“That same day in the emergency room I found out I was two weeks pregnant,” said Richardson.
Richardson says she never would have jumped had she known she was pregnant.
“To hit the ground belly first that's dangerous. I mean at any stage of pregnancy that's dangerous. That's not something you want to do let alone at 50 miles per hour,” said Richardson.
But 10 weeks after that fateful fall, Shayna Richardson and baby are on the road to recovery.
“Just this last week we went and saw the doctor and we've got arms, we've got legs. We've got a full face. The baby is moving around just fine. The heart rate looks good. So not only did God save me but he spared this baby,” said Richardson.
Four surgeries later Shayna Richardson says the pain is finally subsiding. She's lost six teeth and lives with 15 steel plates in her face. Without hesitation, Richardson watches the video tape of her fall; lucky to be alive to share her story.
“I wanted to watch it,” said Richardson. “And the whole reason I'm comfortable with watching it because I know how it ends.”
Believe it or not Richardson is already thinking of jumping again.
“I do want to skydive again and I will skydive again,” said Richardson.
Until then, she's focused on her pregnancy and grateful for her new lease on life.
“To survive and then the fact I have recouped as quickly as I have, all I can do is praise the Lord. There's nothing outside the grace of God has made it happen,” said Richardson.
Shayna Richardson's baby is due June 25th. She hopes by August of next summer she'll be skydiving again.
Richardson is also facing mounting medical bills. A medical fund has been established her hometown of Ash Grove, Missouri. If you would like to contribute call (417)-672-2572 or write:

| integrity640, her first chute opened, she couldn't control it, that's why she deployed her reserve, and that malfunctioned, but she wasn't going terminal velocity or anything. Still pretty crazy story though. |
