I need one. My hands are the only thing getting cold. I wonder if they could make some water-proof device that warms the handle and you could perhaps plug into your cigarette lighter. Gloves are Ok; but 5mm is still not warm enough.
I think because you grip the handle so tight, your hands get colder. Maybe because your circulation is constricted from your grip.
A 7mm glove would be too thick, it is so much harder to hold the handle with gloves on. Anyway we rode today and we had to lap the creek a few times to break up the ice before we could ride. It was nice and glassy though.
Any input on the heated handle or ways to keep your hands warm?
I brough a hairdryer with us today

| Raven, you try using those handwarmer things... that you snap and should provide like 30 minutes of warmth or whatever?

Raven, get some dishwashing gloves that are rubber. they are waterproof so if you can secure them around your wrists your hands wont get wet or cold. ive done that a few times and it works pretty well

EvanPark, that pic is too funny, but what a great idea. There is a pisser on the back of my boat that shoots out warm water, I never thought of containing it though. Great idea. How does that drysuit work, do they make drysuit gloves and boots?
scott a, the dishwashing gloves is another great idea. What do you secure them with? Maybe some velcroe strap of sort.
freerider4 I bet the heat packets would work well if you had sort of waterproof glove.
senorbueno, Good suggestions thanks for the positive feedback.
Do you guys think the heated handle will ever happen? Especially carbon fiber being a good conductor. Anyone have any friends at accurate.

Not likely, considering most people chose simply not to ride when water is at a temperature where a heated handle would be needed. There simply would not be enough of a customer base for Accurate to profit off of a handle that would cost more than their already expensive carbon handles cost.
However, it is a good idea for solving the problem in your situation!

Water is also a good conductor...I can just see something going really wrong and either short circuiting out the whole eletrical system in your boat of electricuting yourself. I suppose if they did find a way to do it, it would be exponentially expensive.
I think the best idea was the heatpacks inside the gloves, and the dishwashing gloves. Or you could look into what kind of gloves Search and Rescue teams use, I'm sure they'd be using some sort of waterproof glove that's really flexible.
EDIT: Try googling it. I found this website:

Now you guys are on to something. How would you get a hollow handle and be able to put it back together water tight? Great ideas

| ZoSo, not being a smartass or anything but waters actually one of the worst conducters. its assumed to be a good conducter because of all of the hairdryer/bath scenarios. these scenarios happen a lot because its easy to drop a hairdryer in a bath tub and then you touch the water, but the voltage is brought down considerably, not to say it wont kill you. its just easier to drop something electric into water rather than a steel slab.

you can pick them up for $20 at MEC.
