So I know most of you are pretty young on here and have more than likely never seen these, and most of you never will get to see one in person because they are either locked up or destroyed... So enjoy a little something from the old days.

fyi: The blue board you see in the middle is hand signed #3055 by Aj the original shaper... Yes kiddies this is one of the first snowboards ever!

The black Performer would follow shortly after, The other board is something that I will always keep close to me because it was a monumental time for my snowboarding and it was a good friends pro model who passed away a few years back, prolly the greatest snowboarder to ever live. RIP Craig.

Also if you look closely to the wall behind them, there is a piece of plywood that was salvaged from Chris Brunkharts house years ago, with many of the black and whites that graced the covers of transworld snowboarding magazine, pictures of Jamie Lynn from the first X games many years ago just to name a few.

Anyways I will shut up now... Just brought this stuff out last night and I figured some of you might enjoy a little slice of the old days.

Actually wakeskating started out on directional boards as well... Most of them were never seen though.

No it actually evolved from wakeboarding and has an influence from skateboarding. And yes wakeboarding did start with directional shapes, so you could say wakeskating's roots lie in directional shapes as well.

You guys really need to take the time to read the Messer interview on the main page and follow it...

It should resolve a lot of misconceptions of wakeskating and where it came from.

mario c., It is a amazing board, That board and his previous model "the orange, black and red one" really changed freestyle snowboarding as we know it.

Craig Kelly ruled, the early Standard films with him in it are awesome.

The picture I have in my head is the run of him, Tex Davenport, and someone else comin down all together. I think Tom Day?

I can remember riding one of those blue Burton's somewhere around 84.Gotta love those metal "fins" on the side for powder Laughing Though I see yours are setup asymetrically where I seem to remember them being parellel on the board I used to ride.
This is just after the days of the Snurfer's with the handle on the nose Very Happy

SleuCrew, That is soooo sick!!!

That blue burton board is the one I started snowboarding on!!! It could have been a model from a year or two after yours but it was blue with the white graphics and had the same shape Wink But it had bindings for hard boots... Sick stick hehe

As an old fart (relatively speaking), I can definately appreciate that.

I got into wakeskating -- in part -- because it currently mirrors the old glory days of snowboarding. People were constantly inventing new tricks and board designs, and it was about having fun and self expression. From my point of view, snowboarding has lost that (or at least it is not as prevalent as it once was).

Snowboarding is my first love, and your collection is worthy of good praise. My dream collection would simply consist of every Burton Jeff Brushie. I am all about new school.

If I had to pick the greatest snowboarders it would be:
style = Jamie Lynn
progression = Peter Line
Pipe = Terje
free ride = Craig Kelly (old school) Johan and Walsh (new school)
Jib = Brian iGuchi or Tarquinn Robbins
Rails = Kevin Jones
Slope-Style = Jussi

board sports didnt just start with directional shapes. skating and snowboarding both have boards that are meant to be ridden a certain way.
