For those of you who don’t know, doing PR for Sattelyte is my weekend job. During the week, I work for a web-marking firm that sends out email campaigns (Spam) for very large corporations. It is a very stressful job, but thankfully I am able to seek solace in wakeskating.com during my hellish 9 to 5.
I was supposed to take today off, and I now regret not doing so….
It was not until 5:00 pm EST that I realized today is Veterans Day (Remembrance Day in Canada). I got so caught up in trying to send spam emails out into the world that I didn’t have time to stop and reflect.
I am sure that there are plenty of other people who failed to do the same today, and I can’t help but pity both myself and them. We tend to get caught up in the BS of day-to-day life that we forget how easy we have it.
Regardless of how one feels about war, I think that November 11 should be a holiday. It should be a day where people are encouraged to -- not only remember -- but think about how/why war has become such a prevalent part of Human culture.
I used to think that there was a time and place for war, but then I went to the A-Bomb Museum in Hiroshima. I am now totally against war, and I cannot think of a valid justification for it.
So in an effort to make up for lost time where I should have been thinking about this sort of stuff, I challenge anyone to prove me wrong. Is there a justification for war.....?
*****On a side note, I recently rented a movie about Kurdistan children on the eve of the American invasion of Iraq. It is incredible. I recommend this film. It has subtitles, but the images and story makes reading worthwhile. Moreover, the lead character’s name is "Satellite".
Rock On!

Agreed,
Unfortunatley the main problem is what you said "but think about how/why war has become such a prevalent part of Human culture. "
Some people are just kind of programmed to think it is ok or necessary.
Good points Johnny....
And I am going to try to Rock On all weekend! |

the ONLY justification for war is either self-defence or if agreements between nations cant be settled ANY other way, and by tht i mean ANY other way, not just if war is easier or more convinient. there have been very few wars that met these two needs. war on iraq=TOTAL BULLSHlT!!!
what did we start this war for? to find hussein and his WMDs, correct? now we have him. WHY THE FVCK IS THIS WAR STILL GOING ON??? bush is THE worst president, no, leader EVER. the dude is evil, literally evil, i mean x 100, spawn of lucifer. letting his own people die for an unjust cause. if thats not evil i dont know what is. _________________ I like to choke when my team needs me the most, no Romo. |

jboss, okay you are against the war, undertandable.
-Bush fed up by saying there were WMDs, okay.
WTF are they supposed to do now, just leave? Saddam IS EVIL, he needed to be taken out of their one way or another (why we didn't do it 10 years ago, I don't know).
Just picking up and leaving now would be the ABSOLUTE WORST POSSIBLE MOVE, they would have been better off with Saddam then the complete anarchy that would occur if we weren't there. If we are going to dedicate all this time and money to fixing Iraq... then let's fix Iraq. Don't give me this bulljive why are we still there.
I know there are many other problems in this world that we could be attending to, but we already started this, and I for one am a firm believer in finishing what I start.
I am not going to respond to any more political discussions on this web board, because most of the people on here are 15 years old, and know nothing about politics and foreign policy and are just regurgitating what they hear other people saying (albeit incorrectly). Don't take me wrong though, I respect the opinions of those that stand behind what they actually understand and believe.
Back on track... I am very thankful to be here today and I respect all veterans that fought for our country and I hope that all of our troops return home safely after they finish their tours of duty. |

senorbueno, I understand what you are saying but that horse is dead already
You(not anyone here in particular) can say what you want about why this shizzle started in the first place but I think its getting pretty obvious that the united states has a huge interest in all that oil, if we didn't why would we really be staying there for????? |

jonnyUTAH, It was Veteran's Day here in the U.S. I was touched by your post, but fret not cuz you did have your moment of reflection ( No one goes through an entire day thinking about precisely one thing) Hell I'm a veteran of THE most unpoular one ever & I worked mas a$$ off yesterday. Folks like you remind everone that sacrafices were made popular or not. Thanks & much joy to you jboss, Justification or substatiation? Maybe you would prefer to be fighting here in the U.S.? We have been attacked several times you know. I'm no Guru or or Warmonger but consider this.....So far war has been the only force that can discipline a whole community( global, national, regional)and until an equivelant discipline is organized(any ideas ?), war must have its way. Much peace and joy to you lil bro

Id hate to see your take on Johnson and Vietnam, which is a war far worse with far less of a reason to go into it. _________________ i feel so naked with out a sig |

senorbueno, we have saddam dude, dont know where youve been for the past year, and he had no wmds, none, at all. how bout we either kill him or jail him and pull out of iraq? if we have the person we started this war over, what are we doing there. its costing us taxpayers a billion (yea, with a b) dollars a DAY for the war in iraq. billions of dollars and thousands of lives lost for no reason.
Bestleft4dead, true, vietnam and korea were bullshlt wars with us trying to end communism and push our democratic way of living on other people and all that happened was we wasted money and got people killed. iraq is the same way. what did we do once we got saddam? what else, try to establish a democratic government in iraq.
doesnt all this sound familiar? didnt alexander the great set out for greece to conquer the world? didnt hitler try to conquer europee and then the world? what happened to them. they failed miserably and their empires crumbled. if america doesnt stop this whole trying to make the world democratic bullshlt all these countries are gonna fvck us one day. it might take a while since germany and greece are far smaller than the us but it will happen.
JTwakeskater56, we have never gone to war against a country that has attacked us yet besides japan, and that was more of an attack than a war. iraq=NEVER attacked us, NEVER, not even once, and so far weve fought two wars there that accomplished nothing. _________________ I like to choke when my team needs me the most, no Romo. |

jboss, I knew I shouldn't have done this. But for someone who is agaianst war ..you sure fantasize about being a pirate/ninja/warrior alot. Swinging from ropes , the missions being enough for you. Blah..Blah. Hell you can do that easy...join the Airborne Special Forces advertised all over this site. get a little taste & get back with me. On a side note. Isn't wonderful to live in a place where your are able to express your opinions openly & probably the most you get is a little crap on the forum as opposed to being executed? _________________ If it don't kill you..it ain't bad. JTwakeskater56, i didnt say i didnt appreciate what the troops are doing for us, i actually look up to them. everytime i see someone that was in iraq i feel like less of a person compared to them. what i said was that the purpose of the war is stupid and pointless. let me sum it up in a phrase, "support our troops, BRING THEM HOME!!!" _________________ I like to choke when my team needs me the most, no Romo. |

JTwakeskater56, mad respect to you. Both my uncle and father were Marines in Vietnam, and my grandfather served in the Army Air Corps in WWII. I think we can be nothing but grateful for he service you did for our country. |
