the pirate winch did'nt malfunction, and it wasnt the operators fault either, it was just never tested before the start of the comp. and you dont really want to be working the bugs out on a gnarly rail thats in less than 6 inches of water, during a comp. _________________ ▼▽▲△ |

That gap is huge. I wish I could've been there, we're sponsored riders the only ones to ride or could you sign up if you just love to skate? Kento, you've come a long way with your winch and its original design. It must of worked because that lipside in the video looked smooth. Wish you the best and prpos to all the riders who took on that crazy stunt in the middle of a concrete parking lot. Man do i want to be there , I appreciate all the photos and vids, keep em' comin. _________________ dbanana wrote:

if it didnt malfunction, then its due to the operator.
who was operating the winch, and had they used kento's winch prior to the event? from what people have said so far perhaps the operator just gave it too much gas? i dunno...thus far you guys havent exactly provided any details. just that it pulled some guy 100000mph then you guys switched it out and the next one was sooooo much better. an unbias view from someone w/o a vested interest in distortion/grinch would be nice.
headhuntermx4, my deal is that youre using your moderator powers to correct mistakes that you make in your posts. you act immature in your posts then take advantage of the fact that you can delete and edit posts because youre a moderator. please...next time you are gonna post something stop and ask yourself if you really wanna do it, because it doesnt reflect highly on the site when a moderator decides to tell another user/moderator to "f@ck off." thats my deal. you should know it already because we've been in this situation before where you delete my post because i called you on your stupid ass posts. ill be saving a screen shot of this post in the case that you decide to nuke it too. _________________ facebook.com/TheLiquidPlayground

scott a, from what i heard come out of the operators mouth of the pirate winch he said that once the rope got some slack, the belt in the motor would spin twice as fast to keep the rope tight, when the rope would get tight the motor would be going twice as fast as it should and then yank the rope faster than you can say: "ill be saving a screen shot of this post in the case that you decide to nuke it too." dude thats so mature. so technically the winch did not malfunction, like i said it was not the operators fault or a malfunction in the winch. and no they never tested kento's winch prior to the event.
an unbias view from someone w/o a vested interest in distortion/grinch would be nice. ----> i think anyone who was pulled by the grinch at the comp would say that it pulled perfect. _________________ ▼▽▲△ |

Alright well ill give you my unbiased opinion, the pirate winch looked good and im sure it will operate fine once the bugs are worked out and kento gets some more practice with driving it, but this was not the time or place to get the pirate winch running smoothly due to the fact that we were riding in 6inches or less of water coming down off a rail that was about 8 feet in the air. I know i wasnt willing to ride behind it under these conditions and kyle walton had used the grinch before and knew that it operated fine. I respect kento for letting them use the grinch because i think even he knew that his winch was not ready and that he was not used to driving it yet, sure they could have used a different driver that had experience in using a winch but that guy would have had to adjust to the pirate winch because im sure they do not drive the same and I wouldnt wanna be the one on the other side of the line when he was getting adjusted to the new winch.
So bottom line is to save people from being human test dummies they used the grinch due to its reliability and we all had an awesome night. |

| im with everyone else on the grinch winch it looked the most functional of the two winches, functioned the best out of the two. I saw the pirate winch when i got there and i was like wtf.. personally id never even consider buying a pirate winch... we are going to be buying a grinch winch in the next month... |

i don't know if the grinch ran PERFECTLY, like b-rau said. it was a little jerky getting up because it slipped a little bit when a lot of tension got on it, like trying to get out of the chair during the high ollie contest at the start of the event. sliding off that little thing at the top of the pool during the rail part made it okay though. the start up was for sure the hardest thing, once it started pullin it was real good. i'm so beat up from it - still recovering. wish i had started tryin that frontboard 270 shuv out earlier, mighta gotten it. _________________

ok, i guess i will say something. first off, i have complete confidence in kents winch. he is improving on an existing idea and trying to make it better. his winch is designed to be stronger and more versatile than other winches. that caused production to take a little longer and didnt give us time to get use to driving it. i think that if the grinch hadnt shown up, the pirate winch would have worked it just would have taken a while to tune it. i thought it was cool that kent stepped aside to let them use a winch that they were use to riding behind. he definetly had the greater good of the contest in mind.
as for the grinch. it performed perfect for us, and im glad kyle walton and his crew came.
i will ride behind the pirate winch or the grinch whenever i get a chance. and i will be comfortable using either of them in my next comp. (and there will be another!) |

oh yeah, at the end of the day kent and the distortion guys were cool with each other. so unless you have something positive to say about the event or have a pic to post please stop causing trouble.
thanks to everyone that helped. |

ive got a few thing to say like:
1) every body stop bashin kento and the pirate winch it looked to me like that thing would be a sweet contraption for anyhting else. I thought it was just that it had to upshift right as you would be goin onto the rail so it wasnt quite right.
2) mad props to all who competed, if you had the nuts to hit it you deserve respect. there was too many mad tricks thrown to name um but props to all
3) ya i was one who fell off, ya im hurt but ill heal. i saw a chiropractor(sp) to day about my back and i had 4 pinched nerves and about 10 misplaced vertabre not to mention alot of scrapes oh well what can you do
overall sick comp loved it _________________ www.OakWaterSkates.com
