for some reason i kinda think burton would make it in the wake industry if that rumor is true. you gotta understand how much thier snowboarders get paid(shaun white) compared to the sallary of any wakeboarder with a company. if they did enter the wake industry the first thing they would do is offer all the top wakeboarders/skaters(if they had em) twice thier normal money(cuz they could easily afford it). so why wouldnt a wakeboarder switch over cuz definately burton would give each guy a pro model however they wanted it. thats my opinion but im getten faded and drinkin right now. but when it comes to snowboarding i would never ride a burton. mervin manufacting all the way. lib's are my fav

This is a complete and total rumor... and as for Burton, they USED to make great snowboards. Now most of their decks ride like a wet noodle after a few weeks.

tomvanwake, I fully agree about Mervin, they do make some of the highest quality snowboards out there. Never Summer, Option and Ride also make great boards... Im waiting for the Arbor rep to send me a few of their new decks. they look really nice and i have heard a lot of good things about them so far... so it will be interesting to see how they ride.

Sleu, are you serious about the wet noodle thing? You're the only person I've heard that from. And this is just technological mumbo jumbo, but they actually over build their boards and then break them down to prevent the wet noodle effect (at least for a while). So I'm surprised you feel the break down that soon.

To whomever asked about my set up, it's all forum and I have no regrets or qualms about it. The board (peter line 151) worked well for me. and for the most part, a JP deck I had before was fun too (it was squirrly at high speeds). Now I have the rome targa's coming in, and interestingly enough, I'm trying to get a lib tech through the shop.

scott a, I totally don't get your joke. but it was a sale weekend, tent was in the pitch (ha), though we didn't actually have a tent outside or anything. it was just a way to kick some packages out the door.

wow, I can't believe that last paragraph.

dragon88, I was going to reply to you but I forgot what you said. I'll be back later!

i've snowboarded since 94, when i was in jr high... back then snowboarding was really starting to get popular. The burton catolouge was only maybe 40 pages.. now its bigger than some small town's phone books. Ive rode burton for all but one year and i couldnt be happier with all of my boards and equipment. I ride the hell out of my boards, and I'm surprised i havent broken a board yet. I hit rocks, trees, jump off big drops, 20-30 ft soemtimes. I've flexed out my 98 burton floater so much that i can ride an entire run in a manual.. mad flex. Laughing I ride a 03/04 burton baron 162 right now.. I freaking love it. Built great and i couldn't be happier with it. I've hit so many rocks, rails, fun boxes, jumps, trees, and kickers. just add a little ptex to the scrapes in the base it keeps on going.

I would be surprised if they came right out and made a burton wakeboard/wakeskate. I agree with what one of the other posters said, about if they did deceide to get into the wake industry they would buy a failing wake company and then bring them back to life.

the technology is better applied to snowskates. because you have the leverage above the board and the ski flexes independently from the upper deck. they ride fantastic.

el, those things are so gnarly in person! By the descriptioin, I thought the metal edge of the board was serrated (sp), but it's actually the entire edge of the board---you can totally see the waves. I've never ridden one, but my boss has and he said that it does work. But it seems like unnecessary technology. Whatever...it works, it's not a gimmic, so I think it's kind of cool that something new has come out...

chris, have you seen the dc mountain lab video? Travis parker hits some park kicker and manuals down the entire transition! It was sick...just pretty funny, and "I can't believe he did that." Travis parker is a treat...it's funny, I like him better now that he doesn't ride for k2. Crazy Eyes

A beautiful invention... I got a chance to ride one last year up at baker and all i can say is it works! They are really nice for hard turns and they can make a crappy choppy day on the hill better for sure. Really comfortable hauling ass too... There is so much crazy shizzle going on up at Mervin that nobody even knows about yet, its retarded. They are way ahead of the game.

J, I got to see some of the DC video at the premier but someone kept feeding me makers so i dont really remember a whole lot of it. Travis Parker is ill though. As far as Burton goes i was always a huge fan of their product up until the past 5 years or so i honestly think the construction is not what it used to be and considering that i rarely ride the park these days i can still break one down pretty easy. I love both of my Lib Dark series, I really think once you start riding a Lib you will see what im talking about. there is really no hype to them, just a really kick ass product.

itch, nobody owns burton, jake burton owns it. Although Burton did just buy fourstar distribution (aka. Special Blend, Jeenyus, Forum, Foursquare)

SleuCrew, is that the board with the wavy edges so when you do a massive carve it straightens out and grips like crazy?

Jimmy T, No, the best way i can explain it is offers different pressure points. Imagine when you are making a carve and you shift your weight more to initiate a harder carve or turn. Now when you are edging you have multiple pressure points vs. one solid edge... The edges are also deeper in the middle, and get less aggressive towards the tip and tail.

Its actually kinda hard to explain, think of how the knobs on the tire of a dirt dike work.

similar to a steak knife, each of the waves digs in seperatley for carving up icy walls of a halfpipe etc. so you dont wash out.
